Genesis : Foxtrot A-1U / B-1U 1st Press Large Mad Hatter Labels 1972
This first pressing plays with superb audio with only very minimal background. There are no intrusive clicks or pops and the clarity, depth and power of the recording is very impressive. As always I have included a full audio grading below. S1 plays with stunning quality overall and the classic 'Supper's Ready' also plays to a very high standard with only minimal light static in a couple of sections. The vinyl has been so well preserved, it is very clean, and I suspect it has hardly been played. There is no spindle wear!
The textured gatefold (with red lettering on the spine) is in excellent condition with only minimal shelf wear and the original inner sleeve is also in great shape. Contrary to what many think the first pressing was not always issued with a red Charisma inner. Direct quite from the 'B & C Discography 1968 - 1975' -
Original issue (A-1U / B-1U matrix copies) in textured sleeve included either a plain white inner sleeve or the “Charisma puts a little colour in your cheeks” advertising inner (the advertising inner sleeve was most likely not included with the very first batch)
CAS 1058 // A - 1U / B - 1U // MH 1 PORKY / MO 1 PECKO
The audio on S1 is Mint(-) (T1 & T2 Near Mint-)
The audio S2 ranges between Ex & Mint- but much more of the latter!
The gatefold is Ex
The inner sleeve is Ex+
The large Mad Hatter labels are Mint
Visual description
The vinyl is in superb condition and still has a lovely glossy sheen with no marks or scratches. Looking under a bright light I can only see a small number of very faint hairlines which obviously are superficial. The run out grooves are super clean and the large Mad Hatter Charisma labels are 'as new' with no marking or spindle wear.
Play grading
The intro on 'Watcher Of The Skies' plays so well with only very minimal light static at the start and a hint of light static just as the percussion comes in. As the music builds the audio is faultless and Gabriel's opening vocal is equal to that. From then on it plays with great clarity and depth and no interference. A handful of mega quiet statics that obviously do not qualify as interference and just a little light static right at the end. The clarity is so impressive and the power and depth of the audio is superb. I think Near Mint- is a fair assessment of the audio although the vast majority is better than that.
The piano intro on 'Time Table' plays beautifully as does the first verse / chorus. It continues in the same way and from start to finish it could hardly play any better. A handful of quiet statics no more and some light ticks on the fade out so again I will say Near Mint- overall.
'Get 'Em Out By Friday' plays with stunning quality through every vocal and instrumental section. The vocals are so clear and the quiet section just beyond the half way mark is a case in point, the clarity is stunning. This has to be graded as Mint- as the sonic quality is superb.
The intro on 'Can-Utility And The Coastliners' has no intrusion and the first vocal section then plays with sublime clarity, depth and warmth. There are only 3/4 very quiet statics as this section ends. The instrumental section then plays with stunning quality and no intrusion. The end vocal is flawless and the high octane finale has no interference and no distortion either. A superb Mint- version.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'Horizons' plays with outstanding clarity with no interference and I only noticed 4/5 very quiet background statics. Mint-
The vocal section on the first part of 'Supper's Ready' is 'as new' and there is just one static tick / light click soon after. The instrumental section then plays with superb clarity and only a couple of mega quiet ticks. Near Mint
Part ii is stunning from the outset and as it builds there is no background and then plays with real clarity and depth from then on. Mint-
The quiet intro on Part iii has no interference and the opening vocal and following section play perfectly. Again the clarity, depth and power is on another level. Mint
Part iv How Dare I Be So Beautiful is of course very quiet and plays very clearly with only a little static here and there. No clicks or pops and Ex is deserved.
The classic vocal section on Part v Willow Farm plays with superb audio throughout with no background at all. Incredible sonic quality here. Just minimal static at the start of the end instrumental. Mint-
The quiet intro on Part vi Apocalypse... plays very clearly with only minimal intermittent static and then the powerful vocal section is 'as new' as is the following instrumental section. Wow it plays so well! The 666 vocal section is flawless and the closing instrumental / vocal could not play any better. The intro is Ex+ and the remainder is Mint
The segue into Part vii As Sure As Eggs Is Eggs is perfect and the vocal / instrumental conclude this 23 minute with impeccable quality and no interference. Mint- is fair and a superb version overall.
The Gatefold & Inner Sleeve
The textured cover is in excellent condition and the only 'obvious' wear is a little creasing in the top left corner which can be seen on the back cover also. Aside from that is very clean with barely any wear on the edges and the wide spine (with red lettering) is in great shape also. The other corners have only minimal rubbing and the opening edge is superb. The front cover has only a couple of very small faint marks near the top edge and the back cover again has a couple of minor marks near the top. The inside of the gatefold is immaculate so overall I think Ex is fair.
The plain white inner sleeve (Patent No 1,125,555 and Made In England) has no side splits or tears and only minimal creasing. All I can see is a handful of minor spots.

Postage & Packaging
I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping. This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage. The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered. Any over-payment will always be refunded.
The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD). An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known. Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing. Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask. Many thanks.
All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection. They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection. I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.
The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each. There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up! Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
