Genesis : From Genesis To Revelation 2W / 3W Stereo Press w/lyric sheet

This blue boxed stereo pressing plays to a standard that you hardly ever find today!  The clarity and definition of the audio cannot be faulted and as always I have played every track in full so as to provide a 'complete' grading.  I cannot overstate how STUNNING the audio is and I suspect the record has never been played before, that's how good it is!  The vinyl is visually perfect and the labels have no spindle wear at all.  This is easily the finest version of this early classic that I have ever had the pleasure in listening to!

It may not be earliest stereo pressing as I think this version was released in '71 but it is nonetheless very collectable and obviously so rare to find in this condition.  It is still an early blue boxed version as it only has a single stamper on each side.

The cover (with no indicator hole) is in excellent condition and for once the original lyric insert is included which is also in superb order with no wear.

In my opinion no Genesis collection is complete without this album!  It certainly gives a good indication of the direction they were heading in and I honestly think it is a very underrated record.  I hadn't listened to it for at least three years and was very pleasantly surprised!  And just to reiterate this is as Mint as they come!  It has been beautifully preserved down the year and 'as new' is a correct assessment of the audio quality.

Visual grading

The vinyl is in beautiful condition and retains an immaculate jet-black glossy sheen with no marking, clouding or dulling.  It is no exaggeration to say it looks 'as new' it is stunning!  I have looked under various 'lights' and I can only detect a couple of ultra faint hairlines and I would not be surprised if this had never been played before.  I have never seen this record as visually 'perfect' as this and the run out grooves and labels are also in pristine condition.  Wow what a version!

Play grading

The quiet intro on 'Where The Sour Turns To Sweet' is 'as new' the clarity is stunning and it continues in the same precise way.  I heard only one very light tick (easily missed!) and the playback from start to finish is incredible!  There is no underlying static and I cannot emphasise enough just how immaculate the audio is here.  No word of a lie you would be very impressed at the audio quality if this has been pressed yesterday but this is from the late 60s/early 70s!  The clarity is just amazing and I have no hesitation in grading this as Mint it is a superb start to the album.

'In The Beginning' is of the same standard.  A more up tempo number there is no interference and the depth and warmth of the music is outstanding.  It may have been their debut album but the production is damn good!  You can hear each note so clearly and even the end piano section has no 'background'.  Another Mint track.

The intro on 'Fireside Song' plays beautifully and from then on plays 'as new' with no sign of any interference.  I can't quite believe the clarity here - I know 'as new' is a brave thing to say but I know audio perfection when I hear it, I've been doing this long enough now!  Mint

'The Serpent' could not play any better - there is no distortion on the top end and again it's the precision and clarity of the audio that really stands out.  The quiet end section has only a handful of barely audible dust ticks and Mint is again very much deserved.

'Am I Very Wrong?' more than keeps up the standard by playing with stunning quality from start to finish.  The powerful end section rarely has no distortion at all.  Mint

The final track on the side 'In The Wilderness' has only very minimal light static on the intro - barely audible if I'm honest.  Once Gabriel's vocal begins the audio cannot be faulted and as the volume increases the clarity and power of the audio remains very impressive.  If there is any inner groove distortion it is barely noticeable and from then on plays with great power and depth.   There are no clicks or pops and only minimal static on the final piano section.  This is still a superb version and easily deserves a Near Mint grade.  What a side!

The quiet intro on 'The Conqueror' on S2 is nigh on a perfect with only a couple of minor static ticks and as the vocal comes in there is no 'background' and it continues to play with exemplary sound quality.  There is no interference and this is easily a Mint- start to the side.

Obviously I have no desire to repeat myself but 'In Hiding' provides another example of how well this vinyl has been preserved over the decades.  3/4 mega quiet dust ticks on the first chorus and from then on the clarity is just phenomenal.  I just cannot believe how clean and precise the audio is - this is Mint in every way!

The intro on 'One Day' is faultless and that applies to the rest of the track.  No clicks or pops, no underlying static, just pure crystal clear audio from start to finish.  Mint

'Window' plays with stunning quality from the very first note with just one dust tick on the intro and thereafter plays beautifully with no intrusion.  I'm running out of superlatives for this STUNNING album!  Mint

The intro on 'In Limbo' is sublime!  So quiet at the beginning and yet has no 'background' and it proceeds to play with genuine quality.  The clarity is again stunning - if I am being super critical there is just minor distortion on the final 'verse' but believe me when I say it is minor!  Hardly noticeable and this is still worthy of a Mint- grade.

'Silent Sun' is superb from the get go and the intro and each verse and chorus play with unrivalled clarity and depth.  There are no negatives - fantastic audio from start to finish.  Mint

The gentle piano intro on 'A Place To Call My Own' plays perfectly and continues to play with wonderful clarity and...no interference.  There is no obvious static, just a very minimal amount towards the end but this is totally non-intrusive and this is without question a Mint- end to this STUNNING album.

In summary this early stereo pressing plays to a standard that is quiet simply exceptional.  This is one of finest vinyls from this era that I have ever heard as there are just no negatives.  It has hardly ever been played (if at all!) and the stunning visual look of the vinyl and the zero spindle wear on the labels provide further evidence of that.  The clarity, depth and warmth of the audio on both sides is incredible and there are no clicks, pops, static or crackle.  This is why we listen to vinyl!  Ok not the rarest pressing of this album but this has been beautifully preserved down the years and any avid Genesis collector I am sure would be as impressed by the amazing audio on offer here.

The Cover

The laminated 'Robert Stace' cover is in excellent condition and again has been very well looked with only very minimal shelf wear.  As per the blue boxed stereo pressing it does not have the indicator hole on the back.  The edges are in superb shape with no rubbing and the thin pinched spine is almost as good with just very minor 'squashing' near the bottom, hardly worth a mention really.  It remains 100% legible.  All four corners have barely any wear and the opening edge is also very clean with hardly any handling wear, just a couple of minor 'crimps' and two white 'specks' next to the edge on the front cover.  The laminated front cover itself is in great order with no marking and only a few of the usual faint creases around the edges.  There is just a little laminate creasing/lift in the bottom left corner.  The back cover is also very clean with only a couple of faint white 'lines' and a little ringwear plus a minor bend/crease in the bottom left corner.  The stereo catalogue number SKL 4990 can be seen in the top right corner.  Overall a fine example of this cover that is rarely seen as good as this.

The Lyric Insert & Inner Sleeve

The original lyric insert is in fantastic condition with no marking or tears and only very minimal creasing.

I'm not sure if this is the original poly-lined inner as it is dated 3-74 in one corner and if I am correct this blue boxed stereo version was pressed in '71.  Anyway, it is in excellent condition with no side splits and only a couple of tiny tears on the top edge and a very small tear on the central 'window'.  It is so clean with barely any marking and just very minimal creasing.

The Labels

The blue boxed Decca labels are pristine!  They have no marking or writing and no spindle wear at all.  They are 'as new' - absolutely stunning!
