The first album that Gene Clark released after his departure from the Byrds followed very closely on the model of his earlier efforts on the Byrds' first two albums. His backing musicians included ex-bandmates Chris Hillman and Michael Clarke, as well as future Byrd Clarence White and Clark collaborator Doug Dillard, not to mention the Gosdin Brothers, whose harmonies resembled a rockier Everly Brothers and brought the sound very close to that of the Byrds. The album contains a number of fine pop-oriented tunes and stellar folk-rock/country-rock numbers (a year before the Byrds' Sweetheart of the Rodeo, which employed both White and Dillard) and established Clark as a major songwriter, rivaling his old band and often coming close to the fabness of the Beatles. Still, despite such solid songs and backing musicians, Gene Clark with the Gosdin Brothers failed to make much of an impact, perhaps due to its being released in the same week as the Byrds' Younger Than Yesterday, itself a tour de force that cemented their influence. However, in the realm of Clark's recorded output, this album stands as the one of the best, if not the best, example of how powerful a singer, writer, and bandleader he was.
(EXCERPT FROM AN ONLINE REVIEW BY ALEX STIMMEL, ALL MUSIC GUIDE /ALLMUSIC.COM/)
The first of only a handful of solo albums this Byrd genius recorded in his lifetime, this pre-psych West Coast folk-rock masterpiece not only includes some wonderful moody, trippy, minor-key ballads, but also almost half of the Byrds (Mike Clark and Chris Hillman), and was partially produced by legendary half-Byrd brother Gary Usher (produced Byrds, Beach Boys, Sagittaris, tons of others). And, sure enough, if Gary Usher is producing, country legend Glen Campbell can't be too far behind - he is playing 12-string guitars here. Finally, Leon Russell is on keyboards, too. Need we say more? Oh, yes…let us not forget the celestial harmonies of the Gosdin Brothers, who almost received equal billing on the cover of this album. A critical Byrds artifact and a must for any Gene Clark collector. Track listing: Echoes - Think I'm gonna feel better - Tried so hard - Is yours is mine - Keep on pushin - I found you - So you say you lost your baby - Elevator operator - The same one - Couldn't believe her - Needing someone - Tried so hard (unreleased version).

· CONDITION:
· RECORD
(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)
(a) WE GRADE THE VINYL AS (WEAK) NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs - are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible, and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.
(b) The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!
(c) Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
· COVER
THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD++ (VG++).
The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:
- Cover has a small, neat, circular cutout hole in one of the corners
- Cover has a light "wrinkle" (crease) in one of the corners.
- Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 4
- Back cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record), probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.
- A visible water stain affects the area about 5 square inches (VISIBLE ON BACK SIDE ONLY); there is no structural damage to the cover, and both cardboard base and paper slick are intact, however, the stain is visible
- Cover shows some light yellowing on back side, apparently from aging.
- Visible shelf wear noted on the seams (nothing significant)
- Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine (nothing significant)
- Cover has three corners slightly worn / dinged (nothing significant)
NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:
- No split seams
- No cut-out corners
- No saw-marks or indents
- No writing
- No stamps
- No peel-off marks
- No mold or mildew spots
- No stickers or labels
- No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or cuts.
- No warping
- No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover
- No glue traces or wax residue.
