Description

PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question.   OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us.  Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week.   Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable.  We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over 18,000 positive feedback.   We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support.   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SHIPPING:   USA ~ 1 LP = $4.00 Media Priority rates vary by area; please inquire.   All Canadian and Overseas shipping ~ Please inquire about rates. • Sweden's answer to the mid-sixties BEATLES!!!
  1. Absolute Original gold/maroon color 1966 DECCA first print featuring a full laminated front/back cover.

  2. The highly regarded MASCOTS were an infectious Swedish 60s group, as a 4-piece were very busy during their brief career, releasing around 20 singles and two LPs between 1964 and 1968. They wrote their own songs and there is a distinct British Invasion style about them, Beatles-like in flavor. As such, you can expect to hear very melodic, quite charming, immediately "catchy" songs from the lads.

"Your Mascots" was the outfit’s 1965 debut, which was pretty good going because they were not professional musicians, only students. Former band member, Stefan Ringborn declared that, “We studied theory, music history and we had a choir. We were singing school choir and were drilled in singing harmony. Traditional Swedish music or folk music did not fit in at all.” So, Beethoven in the day and pop-rocking Beatles beat during the evening was the form.

The band were quite open in their admiration of The Beatles, “Maybe it was because we were music students but we could immediately sort out their harmonies and chords. Not all the bands around were able to do that,” he said.

Initially a covers band, the Mascots entered and won competitions and then started to write their own material. Decca eventually signed them to a contract but their first two singles bombed. They then found themselves on the same bill as The Beatles in Stockholm in 1964, “We said hello,” said Ringborn, “and it was a little bit awkward as the record company had been promoting us as ‘The Beatles of Sweden’. Being presented as such to the Beatles, I didn’t feel too good about that. Of course, Paul was the ambassador and very polite.”

The band’s next three singles were national hits and they were off and running which lead to this album.
  3.
The  MASCOTS second album, "Elpee" released in 1966, has a definite maturity in song structure and delivery. The group has grown up, losing a measure of innocence but gaining in both technical ability and within their arrangements and overall evolution.

  1. THE "FAN MAN" adds:

  2. the MASCOTS (second and best) 1966 album “Elpee”  (released by German Decca) Contains 14 tracks recorded ONLY in stereo.  In stark contrast to their debut album,  “Elpee” (in keeping with the times) greets the listener’s ear with fuzzed-out guitars on the album’s opener “The Winner.”  “I Close My Eyes” is another fuzz fest with gorgeous harmony vocals, reminiscent of their British Invasion influences.  The album features a more mature, much heavier sounding version of the 1st Mascots, especially guitarists Stefan Ringbom and Gunnar Idering who supply top flight solos on up tempo rockers like “I Want To Live”, “This Time Girl”  and “Nobody Crying.”   The rhythm section of Anders Fosslund on bass and Rolf “Buff” Adolfsson on drums is tight.  The band does, however, still display plenty of harmony on tunes like “Every Way I Think Of You” and “Droopy Drops.”

  4. CONDITION:

  5. The cover: rated: VG++ fully laminated, though extremely fragile, this is a nice cover despite pen shadow impressions (not ink) on front left hand corner and back lower right.
  6. Finding a 55 years ago original of this album in decent condition is uncommon. There is light handling evident but overall absolutely a copy we would keep for our own private collection IF we didn't have a similar.
  7. There are no delete marks, no split seams, and no writing  ...

  1. The vinyl: Rated: strong VG++ all very glossy/shiny, there are only a few very small top surface scuffs not having an impact on the "EX" (excellent) audio performance. Both maroon (gold text) DECCA labels are clean

A cool addition to anyone's music library!
