1980s Studio One 7” Vinyl 

RARE ROOTS !


"Africa" / "Never Let Your Country Down", by The Gay Lads (sometimes called The Gaylads), released in the 1980s on Coxsone Dodds Studio One label in Brooklyn. This single was reportedly cobbled together using stampers from 2 earlier releases from the late 1960s. Matrix for Africa is WIRL 1563-1 CS and Never Let Your Country Down is CS DODD 84.  Later 7” issues of Africa on Studio One came with a different stamper number and different B-Side.     


I found this 7” digging around behind the counter in Coxsone Dodd’s Music City store in Brooklyn, back in the mid ‘90s. Played it a few times and stored it for over 20 years.
