Description

Gary Numan - Down In The Park (Alternative Version)

MEGA RARE SOUTH AFRICAN ONE SIDED 10" ACETATE!!

Welcome to an extremely rare record sale

The sale is for a one sided 10" acetate featuring an alternative version of Gary Numan's classic 1979 track 'Down In The Park' which was included on the 1979 LP 'Replicas'. This has to be the rarest Gary Numan item.

This acetate dates back to 1979 and was produced when Numan had decided to have tracks released worldwide in his name only (i.e not Tubeway Army).

This exclusive version features a different beginning and ending and runs for 3 minutes and 25 seconds!

On listening to this it appears that Warner Brothers cut a 'single' mix with a view to releasing this but the cross on the label suggests that it was rejected. This alternative version at 3.25 is much shorter than the version that was released as a single and included on the 'Replicas' LP which runs for around 4.22. The arrangements on the version are the same but the edit is different.

The one sided 10" disc features the following track:

Side A

  • Down In The Park (Alt Version) (3.25)

There is no catalogue number on this disc, label or on the run off groove for this one!

This disc was part of a collection purchased from a man who had worked in the music industry for Warners for many years.  The record itself plays at 33RPM, is in EXCELLENT condition and is housed in a yellow 10" die cut sleeve. It has two spinning holes, the second being visible on side B of the disc only.   This is without a doubt one of the rarest Gary Numan items in existence. This is a totally ONE OFF and very special pressing!!!

Note: All original copyright ownership of this track remain the property of the relevant owners. The sale of this acetate does not include any rights to duplication.

SHIPPING COST (REGISTERED WITH TRACKING NUMBER) IS $25 for USA and Canada / Japan and $16 for Europe

What is an acetate:

Runnin An acetate is a transitional stage between the master tape and the finished vinyl record.
Originally acetates were used for home recording in the days before tape recorders but since the advent of cassette tape & CDR are now no longer used for providing bands & their entourage copies of todays studio efforts. A machine actually cuts the grooves into the acetate like a lathe. The acetate is used to assess whether the music has been successfully transferred to disc.
It is checked by the sound engineer. There may be only one copy made of a particular recording sometimes more are cut and sent to the studio and band members for approval. The acetate comes before making the master and allows the sound to be checked without great expense.
It is unusual for more than a dozen to be manufactured so from the collectors point of view an acetate is a rare find indeed!
If the recording is rejected the acetate may be the only record that survives. The rejected cut may simply be poor quality however the artist may have opted to use a different take of the song if so the acetate becomes much more precious. An incredible find - possibly unique - and certainly one of only a handful.
