Original UK Test pressing and UNIQUE accompanying receipt signed by Brian Eno himself, for a lecture he gave at Maidstone College Of Art in February 1976.
No, we haven't suddenly becme prog-rock sellers, but this UNIQUE item was so interesting we just had to include it this week.
OK, what we have here is a unique and very interesting artefact that points to a moment in Brian Eno's life, as not only a musician, but also a college lecturer. Eno didn't do just one thing of course, as his fans know perfectly well but before the days of recording everything on emails and web-pages, we have only these slight clues to tell us what he was up to back in the mid-1970's.
It would be nice if I could just ring him up and ask about this, but I suspect it would be as difficult for him to remember the precise circumstances of this lecture as it is to find anything out about it? Come on down and let us know Brian :-)
Unique to this item:
What is true is that Brian Eno was a great friend of Russell Mills, a UK fine artist whose work adorned several LP covers during the 'punk' era and who attended Maidstone College Of Art. Brian himself clearly went the distance with this relationship and lectured at the very same college, maybe as a favour, or because of the thriving artistic community of the day and all its cross-pollenation, who knows. I can't find any reference to this lecture itself but the included receipt shows the date Feb 26 1976, in the year after Mills left having attained a first class honours degree. The relationships between the artists and musicians of the time were clearly reaching the level where it could be a part of a college education.
This copy of the LP is a test pressing (rare enough in its own right) adorned with several hand-written notes, clearly by Eno himself which list, among other things, several musical acts and artists who were likely the subject of the lecture itelf. The range is wonderful, and the influences clear and obvious to those with a keen eye for a connection; 'Both Ends Burning' would obviously reference Roxy Music's contribution, Eno being a member of Roxy at that time. Other names provide a unique set of clues to what Eno would have been talking about; 'A Rainbow In C.A.' would be a reference to Terry Riley's epic ambient work 'A Rainbow In Curved Air' which Eno can be found talking about elsewhere in the blogosphere, 'Erik Satie', obviously an influence in Eno's music, but we have 'Paulette Williams' and 'Dennis Browne', two reggae artists, we have 'Wayne Shorter', Fred Frith', Charlie Haden's epic 'Song For Ché', well just see for yourself: John Lennon, Stones, Beach Boys...
ve-e-ery intersting, no?
Oh, for a time machine, to go back and hear what he had to say about all this music.
The accompanying receipt for payment is o original Maidstone College Of Art headed paper and is a carbon-ribbon copy (remember those? made by two sheets of paper or more, being placed under the hammers as the typewriter went along, so that other copies could be made at the same time. Not usually more than two, it needs to be said. It is signed by Brian Eno and the writing on the sleeve shows obvious clues that it is also written by the same hand.
So what you have here is a truly unique artefact that any student or fan of Brian Eno's music will cherish. Wish I could tell you more about it but obviously the mystery is half the fun.
As for the record itself, I can tell you from having played it all the way through, that it shows less than the usual surface noise of these particular pressings, probably due to it being a very early pull from the stampers, among the first? Anyway it plays pretty clean (hear the sample) although it must be said that some handling over the years has made a few scuffs that can be heard here and there.
Come on Eno fans, this is the only one of this, ever.
Don't let it get away :-).

Star Ratings:
This is more than just an add-on, it's a method to enforce sellers to trade to eBay standards. Buyers can give sellers marks for 'item as described', 'shipping time', 'shipping cost' and 'communication'.
VERY IMPORTANT Sellers are required to maintain an average of over 4.5 stars for each category. This means that anything less than a 5 star rating actually counts against the seller (though you may not have meant it to). This is not made clear to buyers so that's why we're telling you now.
Shipping cost: Our prices are clearly marked on the table above and you should not have any complaint about that after the sale.
Item As Described: We try our best to make our descriptions accurate but mistakes can happen. We GUARANTEE our items, so if you have any problem we will refund you.
Shipping time: We try to ship on the next available posting day but we are a busy shop and this can't always happen. We will let you know if there is any significant delay. Please take into consideration any public holidays, etc.
Communication: We try to respond immediately but we are a busy shop. The eBay part of our business is conducted OUTSIDE shop hours therefore some communication may be delayed. Please take this into consideration when asking a question or when leaving a rating.
Problems:
We would consider it rude if you go straight to eBay or Paypal before contacting us. Remember eBay are not selling you this item; WE ARE! Any refunds or claims for damage will have to come from our pockets. If for ANY reason you are unhappy with our service, or if anything goes wrong, please contact us first and we will try to solve the problem together. We're here to help you. We want to keep you happy so please contact us with any questions at any time.
