Description
Frank Zappa - Apostrophe (')
Stereo Cat No K 59201
1974 1st Issue UK Pressing On Discreet Label.
Zappa was a true genius in music. Apostrophe (') is his most commercially successful album. Even if this album has sold well none of Zappa's recordings weren't commercial at all because his music was too odd and complicated for the pop charts. He did just what he wanted and not what was popular at the time. That's the reason why I like his music a lot.
Apostrophe (') consists of nine humorous jazz-influenced experimental rock songs which aren't so long. The longest song of the album is six and a half minutes long so we aren't talking about a long album here. Apostrophe (') is about 31 minutes long but it's still so damn impressive. The opening cut "Don't Eat the Yellow Snow" became one of Zappa's biggest hits and it was the first song I ever heard from him. As I said before, humour is a big part of this record as it always was in Frank's music. "Nanook Rubs It", the title track and "Stink-Foot" are the longest songs and they kick ass big time. But the shorter pieces are just as awesome too. Every second in this album is delivered with the classic Zappa style and touch.
