Frank Sinatra Autographed Fan Letter and Picture

Dated July 28, 1940 - A Unique Pair

The letter from Frank is dated July 28, 1940 and is nicely signed by him.  The text is interesting as he asks the fan to send him a picture of her in return!  The return address on the envelope says "C/O Tommy Dorsey Orch., Hotel Astor, Times Square, New York NY."  Both the letter and the envelope are in excellent condition with no damage at all.

The picture evidently was received by the fan a few days later, as the date "August 2, 1940" is lightly penciled on the back.  It is inscribed "To Barbara, Best Wishes, Frank Sinatra."  The photo is a sepia tone 5" x 7" publicity still, and is in excellent condition, as is the original mailing envelope.  Again, the return address is in care of the Tommy Dorsey Orch.

Both the letter and the photograph are addressed to the same person, and with the two dates being so close, it is evident that they were sent in reply to a request from the fan for an autographed photo.  It's remarkable that these two pieces have survived and stayed together for 74 years.
