Description
Four (4) vinyl record albums celebrating Jewish culture.
1. Gertrude Berg in How to be a Jewish Mother.
A Very Lovely Training Manual.
by Dan Greenburg.
1965.
"Gertrude Berg is probably the best known and best loved Jewish Mother in America. 'The Rise of the Goldbergs' radio program, for which she created the role of Molly Goldberg, was the show which launched her career. It pioneered in 1929 and prompted a stream of 5,000 scripts through 1946..." - excerpt from the back of the jacket.
"Dan Greenburg is the author of 'How to be a Jewish Mother,' published [as a] hilarious bestselling book on which this record is based." - excerpt from the back of the jacket.
Sample contents: The Basic Techniques of Jewish Motherhood / The Jewish Mother's Guide to Food Distribution / The Jewish Mother's Guide to Entertaining / The Jewish Mother's Guide to Thrift / The Jewish Mother's Guide to Sex and Marriage / How to be a Jewish Grandmother.
Condition: The jacket is clean and solid, just minor wear at the edges and corners. The inner paper liner is good. The vinyl record shows light turntable play, just a few light scratches.
2. Klezmer Conservatory Band.
Yiddishe Renaissance.
1981.
Dimension Studios, Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts.
"Klezmer was the popular dance music for the Yiddish-speaking populations in the large Jewish centers of Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, and especially New York. Klezmer blended the folk and dance music of
Eastern Europe with the syncopations and instrumentations of American jazz." - excerpt off the back of the jacket.
Condition: The jacket is still partially protected by retail shrink wrap, so it is in good clean solid condition. Just a bump at the outer bottom corner. The inner paper liner is wrinkled at one corner. The vinyl record is clean showing very light turntable play.
3. Masterpieces of the American Synagogue.
With Cantor Harold Orbach, Kenneth Jewell Chorale and Chamber Orchestra, Eric Freudigman, Conductor.
Inscribed on the front of the jacket in blue ink and signed by Harold Orbach.
Musical Heritage Society, Tinton Falls, N.J.
1980.
Sample contents: Shalom Rav by Ben Steinberg / Brosh Hashana by David Wilson / Kol Nidre arranged by Max Janowski / Thou Shalt Love by Max Janowski / Sim Shalom by Max Janowski.
Condition: A pasted label on front suggests this was a gift to celebrate the opening of a new synagoge. The cantor Harold Orbach wrote an inscription on the front of the jacket in blue ink and signed it. The jacket is solid but is worn at the edges and corners. The inner liner is a little wrinkled near the opening, and the corners are torn. The vinyl record is clean, showing very little use.
4. The Jewish American Princess.
Presented by Bob Booker and George Foster.
Bell Records 6063.
1971.
"A new comedy album by the writers and producers of 'The First Family', 'You Don't Have to be Jewish', and 'When You're in Love the Whole World is Jewish.'" - excerpt off the back of the jacket.
Sample contents: The Jewish American Princess / The Care and Feeding of Judy Ann Pearlman / Guess Who's Coming to Dinner / Engaged to be Married / The Night Before the Wedding / Back from the Honeymoon / The Allergy Doctor / Panic in the House.
Condition: The jacket is pretty well beat up, creased and wrinkled, with white spider marks. The front surface is scuffed, and the edges and corners are worn. There is a bare spot on the front top right. The inner liner looks good, just wrinkled at one corner. I notice it is advertising Capitol Records, so it may not be the original. The vinyl record shows some stylus drops and scratches, but looks playable.
Thank you.
