Description
Very rare first pressing on the Pink Island (White i) label ILPS 9115 manufactured in 1969. Matrix numbers are A1/B1. The disc itself still maintains a high sheen which is remarkable for its 40 year age. There is no scratching or paper scuffing of note. The labels are perfect, with no writing or sticker marks, in fact no defacement at all. There is a minimal amount of spindle marking and no central hole wear.
The inner sleeve is the original polylined "Made in England" version and is in excellent condition.
The outer gatefold sleeve is also in great condition, with no unsightly marking which this type of unlaminated cover was prone to. The inner gatefold is absolutely perfect with no damage at all to the inner spine. The front and rear outer gatefolds are also in good condition with a small amount of discolour to the outer edges. All of the edges show a small amount of wear, as does the spine, but all edge writing is clear to read. All of the corners are sound. The sleeve was manufactured by the E J Day Group and is stamped with Island Records, Basing St, london, W11.
This is a magnificent album, the last Sandy Denny made with Fairport and the start of Dave Swarbrick's long career both as performer and writer. Contains such magic tracks as Matty Groves, Tam Lin and Crazy Man Michael. It is rare that first pressings in such great condition come to the surface. This album has been in my private collection since I bought it in 1969. It has been stored upright in custom built shelving away from heat, light, damp and dusty conditions. To my knowledge it has not been near a turntable in the last 35 years.
This album will suit any fan of Fairport, as it includes the wonderful voice of Sandy Denny, Swarbrick's swirling fiddle work and Thompson's magical guitar, a complete delight.
Bid early for this, you will not be disappointed.
