Description
Thrilling performance by Fritz Reiner and the CSO of Bela Bartok's magnificent "Concerto for Orchestra". Reiner was a close friend of Bartok's and was instrumental in urging the dying composer to pen this work. Though Reiner did not conduct the world premiere (that honor went to Koussevitzky and the Boston Symphony), Reiner made the very first recording of the work while he was music director of the Pittsburgh Symphony in the 1940's. Here, however, we have the unsurpassable Chicago Symphony, recorded in Orchestra Hall, Chicago, in unbelievable stereo sound, and led quite definitively by Bartok's close friend and orchestral wizard, Fritz Reiner! This box for this is in pretty rough condition with broken seams and a missing end; also some writing (the writing says staggered heads, but this is definitely an in-line tape). The tape, which is stored TAILS OUT on the reel, plays beautifully on my Revox B-77 deck. Overall a fair copy of this rarity. Packing, USPS FIRST CLASS shipping and insurance are a flat $5 to domestic U.S. destinations. Priority mailing on request. International destinations will cost more.
