TONS OF SOBS

ISLAND SIL 933589 (AUSTRALIA) 1969

late in 1969, Festival Australia began issuing the first of the UK pink Island releases

'underground' or progressive music was still very much a new and mysterious thing in Australia

and the relatively primitive printing facilities (then available) struggled to meet demand for ever more elaborate sleeve designs

consequently, Free's classic Tons Of Sobs was again housed (following the ultra primitive turquoise & blue label 1st issue) in a truncated non-gatefold cover, albeit with nice high-quality lamination to the front

by this time, the mono / stereo option notation of the Festival sleeve had been replaced by a stereo-only catalogue number, although a large circular pink ISLAND RECORDS LTD sticker, with the 'white i' logo, was added to the front to cover the Festival logo

AGAIN, RECORDS WERE PRESSED DIRECTLY FROM UK MASTERS

AND BORE ILPS + 9089 + A2 / B2 MACHINE-STAMPED MATRIX NUMBERS

AS WELL AS HAND-INSCRIBED (BY THE FESTIVAL CUTTING ENGINEER) DOMESTIC NUMBERS

I ALSO RECENTLY LISTED THE MONSTER RARE AUSTRALIAN BLUE & SILVER FESTIVAL

(PRE-PINK ISLAND) ISSUE OF THIS ALBUM
