Another from my personal collection. Please note that this album is complete and original 1st UK pressing the very earliest 1st issue featureing -A#1 -B#1 Matrix endings and Rough Textured Pink Island labels with the white 'I' logo The vinyl looks and sounds barely played  no more than a minimal amount of times ever. Awesome Excellent plus to Very Near Mint Vibrant Audio Quality! One of the best and vibrant sounding copies that I have heard of this pressing No distortion at all!! (Please note, Island early 70s pressings are notorious for producing static/crackle/ticks and allowances must be made for this fact)  Any interference heard was isolated in quieter places only just very light isolated static crackle tick/ticks heard in places but no loud constant clicks or pops!    Please Note: The original 1st issued Island cover does have wear and tear with age in the form of rubbing at the edges and spine and creases to mention!

(Finding this pressing that has a stunning vinyl, that has super clear and vibrant Audio is now almost impossible.

I would grade the audio as one of the best sounding copies that I have heard. Excellent plus to Very Near Mint throughout!

Listen to the complete recording of the album in the player below. Actual recording from the vinyl!

Free was an English rock band formed in London in 1968, best known for their 1970 signature song "All Right Now". They disbanded in 1973 and lead singer Paul Rodgers went on to become a frontman of the band Bad Company along with Simon Kirke on drums. Lead guitarist Paul Kossoff formed Back Street Crawler and died from drug-induced heart failure at the age of 25 in 1976. Bassist Andy Fraser formed Sharks.

The band was famed for its sensational live shows and nonstop touring. However, early studio albums did not sell very well – until the release of Fire and Water which featured the massive hit "All Right Now". The song helped secure them a place at the Isle of Wight Festival 1970 where they played to 600,000 people.

By the early 1970s, Free was one of the biggest-selling British blues rock groups; by the time the band dissolved in 1973, they had sold more than 20 million albums around the world and had played more than 700 arena and festival concerts.

"All Right Now," remains a rock staple, and had been entered into ASCAP's "One Million" airplay singles club.

Rolling Stone has referred to the band as "British hard rock pioneers". The magazine ranked Rodgers No. 55 in its list of the "100 Greatest Singers of All Time", while Kossoff was ranked No. 51 in its list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time".

Free was signed to Island Records in the UK and A&M Records in North America. Both labels became part of the PolyGram group in 1989, then Universal Music Group in 1998; UMG now controls the band's catalogue worldwide.

Fire and Water is the third studio album released by English rock group Free. The album became the band's breakthrough hit, reaching #2 in the UK charts and #17 in the US, making it the most successful Free album.

The album contained the hit single "All Right Now" which they later played to a crowd of over 600,000 people at the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival, generating great popularity.

The Matrix

Side 1 "ILPS-9120 A#1"

Side 2 "ILPS-9120 B#1"

The Vinyl

The vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable and is free of any warping!. On initial inspection the vinyl gleams and looks absolutely stunning in my opinion, it looks barely ever played at all! On closer inspection I can just barely see very minor blemishes/scuffs only and perhapes light whyspy sleeve removal marks. At least no needle scratches or indeed any marks that would cause any loud nasty contant clicks or pops during the audio!

The Audio Quality

I have played the vinyl throughout at very loud volume on a top system three times prior to this listing!

The first thing to note is that this vinyl has been stored in my collection, laying dormant for over 40 years.

The audio is clear and very vibrant throughout with no signs of distortion or that this has been over played at all! (Please note, Island early 70s pressings are notorious for producing static/crackle/ticks and allowances must be made for this fact) Any static crackle or light tics heard was isolated and only during just one or two very quiet places or tracks only, Note: two or three light static ticks/pops heard just after the intro to the first track side one to mention. Please note: As mentioned above, allowances must be made for these early 70s Island pressings, static/ticks/pops are notoriously common, but for the fact that this is the very early 1st issued pressing featuring Rough Textured Labels and A#1 B#1 Matrix endings this is one of the most vibrant copies that I have ever heard! Very rare and collectable like this!

Hear the complete recording of the vinyl in the player above!

I would grade the audio at least excellent plus to very near mint for the most part.

Please note! This vinyl has been im my collection and laying dormant  for more than 40 years! A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves causes static/ticks. A constant clean before each play is recommended! This will reduce any static/ticks and will enhance the audio quality! It is noted that debrit was seen on the playing surface after each play!

Please note! I always make this disclaimer! Please allow for the odd isolated static,crackle/ticks/pop (not) consistant throughout the audio! I  have given my honest opinion, Please remember that this is a genuine 45 year old vinyl (not a reissue) that would have originally been played on a 45 year old system!

The Labels

These are the original 1st issue rough textured Island labels featuring the white 'I' logo. Bare minimal, perhapes just a handful of spider traces noticed on the labels indicating that this has barely ever been played in my opinion. little if no spindle wear the hole is perfectly round!

The cover

This is the original 1st issue 1st UK pressed  unlaminated Island Records cover  (see photos) There is general wear and tear with age in the form of edge and spine rubbing wear noticed if looked for. The spine has flattened with age. Creasings and corner bumping are also noted and again noticed if looked for.

I would grade this cover at near excellent in my opinion, wear is noted!

The Record Sleeve
This is the plain white poly lined paper sleeve staining/yellowing/creasing with age! The vinyl is now always stored separately from the sleeve and cover.
