Description
Very nice copy of the 1966 pressing of Freddie Hubbard's Ready For Freddie LP on Blue Note stereo BST 84085. Features a host of great players: Wayne Shorter, McCoy Tyner, Elvin Jones, Etc. "RVG STEREO" stamped in the runoff. No ear. The disc has some light scuffs and marks but plays very well most of the time. There are some moments when it is a little noisy, to be honest. I'll go through the whole thing: The first track, Arietis, is rollicking and loud enough to drown out any background crackle, until the piano solo, where you can hear it a little. The second track is a slower, quieter one, which has some distracting crackle, until it kicks in with drums, and then it plays fine. The third and last on side one plays just fine, except a touch of very light noise at the very end as it fades out. Side two starts off much the same as side one, with an uptempo number, Birdlike, which plays fine until the piano solo, when you can hear some background noise. The second and last number, Crisis, starts off a little quieter, and has light crackle in the beginning, but really not bad. As soon as things get rolling that disappears and it plays fine. The piano solo on that tune has no noise in the background. So-- all in all it plays pretty well. Most of the time it plays just great but these quieter parts have some disturbance as I mentioned. I find it completely enjoyable and the sound is just glorious on a nice early pressing. I "A/B-ed" it with an 80s repressing I have and even with the imperfections I prefer this pressing by far. Way more presence and fullness. Anyhow that's the disc. The cover is still in the shrinkwrap and is very lovely. Unusually well-preserved and beautiful. The open edge has light wear but it is very light and the rest of the cover is mint. No seam splits or corner dings. Really really beautiful. Easily the best early copy of the cover I have seen, and these Blue Note records look so great in this condition. Anyhow it is a nice early copy.
