Description

Fred Elizalde and His Cambridge Undergraduates in London in 1927 play 'Clarinet Marmalade' and 'Stomp Your Feet' on HMV B5315. Elizalde had come to London from the USA in 1927 to chaperone his brother, Manuel, at Cambridge University and together they formed a jazz band with other students. He eventually was offered leadership of his own band at the Savoy hotel in London and he filled it with such American luminaries as Adrian and Arthur Rollini, Bobby Davis and Chelsea Quealey (he tried to get Bix and Bing but they wouldn't or couldn't come). The musicians on these sides are, apart from Elizalde, all amateurs, including future Test cricketer Maurice Allom. CONDITION: A very respectable E- copy. Rare in any shape! CONDITION: E-, some blasting. Very clean and loud recording.
