From my personal collection - one of my favorites! This set has a little bit of everything and something for everyone: pre-Mothers, original Mothers of Invention, TV Appearances (Saturday Night Live, KCET LA 1974 Dub Room Special, Black Napkins from Mike Douglas), Flo and Eddie, 200 Motels outtakes, Hunchentoot (Sleep Dirt songs with vocals for a never-to-be Broadway show), earlier studio and live versions of various songs that show development and glimpses behind where some lyrics originate from, etc. Sound quality varies from pristine to very sub-par but this isn't a "Greatest Hits" collection, it contains hard to find and impossible to find archival recordings that provide hours of entertainment for the diehard Zappa fanatic. Plus don't forget the status you will earn from owning this ultra-spiffy collectors piece!
The quality of this set is exceptional with very little damage or discoloration of the box (see photos for the worst places) and NO TORN BOX CORNERS! Not bad for an item that my notes tell me I purchased on May 27, 1987 (nearly 30 years ago)! I pulled each record out and examined them and they all look fantastic. No scratches, only some light dust and a few discolored spots on a couple of the records (maybe old fingerprints?), certainly nothing that will affect the playability.
Get it while you can and avoid the brutal depression and eternal shame of inadequacy caused by missing out on this golden opportunity!!!
