Full gloss on all 4 sides; extremely clean throughout. Disc 1, Side 2 has a very faint surface scuff line, viewed under hard bright light, that is 100% inaudible. Other sides are all very close to Near Mint with only the slightest signs of play. Labels are super clean all 4 sides with no spindle marks, writing, finger prints or soil. one label has tiny edge pressing blemish (see photo #3).

COVER is EX
Still in clean original Shrink Wrap, crisp and tight with no creases, wear or significant marks. Cover has a small bit of light dust visible beneath shrink on back, l.r. corner. Sharp corners and straight edges all around except for a couple of small nicks on back side opening edge (see last photo). All-in-all an exceptionally clean and well preserved cover that you very rarely find for this title.

EXTREMELY RARE Live Recordings of Frank Zappa from 1970
Separately these 2 records are considered to be the very first 2 FZ undergrounds
both originally pressed and released in 1971.

This Double package combining the 2 LPs was issued in 1973 or 74 and bear the correct etched Matrix #s for 1st press for each
(FZ 503 A / B for 200 Motels -  and FZ-523-A / B for Hot Rats at The Olympic), suggesting either surplus original pressings combined here,
or additional pressing from the original plates.

DISC 1 is Frank Zappa 200 Motels Live With The Mothers, Zubin Mehta And The Los Angeles Philharmonic,
"a Suite For Rock Group And Orchestra" May 15th, 1970 at The PAULEY PAVILION, University Of California, Los Angeles.
Performers include FZ, Ray Collins, Ian Underwood, Billy Mundi, Don Preston, Jeff Simmons, Jim 'Motorhead' Sherwood and Aynsley Dunbar,
plus the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra (conducted by Zubin Mehta).

*Frank had originally intended to record the performance but the L.A. Musicians Union
demanded a considerable amount of money for 'recording rights' and threatened legal action.
FZ declined, and this audience member recording remains the only audio document of the now-legendary concert.

DISC 2 Is The 1st Live Performance of Zappa's "Hot Rats, at The OLYMPIC AUDITORIUM, Los Angeles, March 7th, 1970.
Performers Include: Frank Zappa, Sugarcane Harris, Ian Underwood, Aynsley Dunbar and Max Bennett.
Tracks include
Sharleena, Twinkle Tits, Directly From My Heart To You and "The Clap" which is actually an extended Chunga's Revenge.

Cover is thick orange stock blank with titles stamped on front and the yellow TMQ Pig sticker at upper left under the shrink.
Back has yellow titles/graphics slip-sheet (loose, not glued on) under the shrink.

NOTE
My lighting is terrible for photographing anything under shrink wrap and produces way too much glare on slightest ripple in the plastic; especially against darker colors.
TITLES SHEET is NOT rippled or wrinkled, it is in fact perfectly flat.

Discs can be identified by their Matrix (Dead Wax) numbers: FZ 503 A (B) for 200 Motels and FZ-523-A (B) for Hot Rats at The Olympic.
also, Hot Rats at The Olympic is a significantly heavier disc with thicker vinyl.

My life-long best friend, who was a DJ at the Radio Station I co-founded in the 1970's - and who worked for me at my California record store in the '70s and '80s -  has now finally left this mortal coil, bequeathing me his deep Vinyl Mine. .Several thousand records (mostly LP's, but also many 45's), several hundred collectible and Rare, Out of Print CDs and Box Sets, plus posters and other memorabilia - most of which will all become available as I move through the collection.

Always collecting everything he could - with strong tastes in rare Psych, worldwide Prog, Electronic, Space Rock, Classic '60s Rock, innovative Hard Rock, UK Blues Rock, Glam, Odd sounds, all things Tolkien and Disney, Hawaiian Slack Key and more.

We had very similar tastes - so numerous prime duplicates are emerging now. Many PROMOS, IMPORTS and 1st PRESSINGS will be included - indeed some still sealed.

Following soon, I will begin listing the LP's first, mostly at auction, with low opening bids - starting with the Prog, Electronic and Space Rock, then the Psych and on from there. You WON'T want to miss those!! (it may take me several weeks (months?) to list them all... still only part-way through opening all the LP boxes - checking Pressing, Edition and condition (most so far are VG++ to NM). It's all coming soon... .

Following the LP's will be either the CDs or the 45's next - and then ultimately the posters and other paper. Truly a great (and enormous) collection!

after thousands of miles, many days spent gathering it all and several thousand dollars spent flying out to California and trucking it all back to my new home, the tip of the iceberg now emerges:
