There is no other box set you can buy, by anyone, that will have this much quality music on it. But the best reason to own it is to hear to the many unreleased tracks that are all over this set. Frank's outtakes are better than most people's released takes! You get the first take of the classic "One For My Baby"; a beautiful "Memories of You", "Here Goes", etc, etc, etc. This is no mere compilation, this is the definitive Sinatra boxed set. Since he didn't do any drek while with Capitol, each disk is chock full of nothing but high quality songs and brilliant vocals. The liner notes won a Grammy, and deservedly so. My only complaint is that some of the songs selected from various albums are questionable, and many others are missing. Where's "Around The World", "There's No You", and "Brazil"? One of those classics could easily have been substituted for "French Foreign Legion", for example. A six- or seven- LP set would have been better, to give people a better idea of what each album was about, rather than just the hits and a couple lesser known ones per album. Of course, getting all the albums AND this set is recommended, because a boxed set can't do justice to the brilliance conceptual themes of many of his Capitol albums. And since this set has some astounding songs you can't get elsewhere, it's essential. Definitely my favorite Sinatra boxed set; incomparable to most others except the similarly fantastic four-disc Reprise Collection (minus the disc 4).

NOTE: Original LP version of “The Capitol Years” was issued in 1990,  when the LP format was officially pronounced dead and production of virtually all vinyl LPs “mysteriously” ceased, as if on cue (hint, hint: major record labels had something to do with it). As a result, vinyl LP versions of this box set masterpiece are surprisingly hard to find today.

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL  AS  NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs -  are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible,  and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The records come in their original custom inner sleeves, unique to this title.

(c)           The album  comes with the original 38-page booklet intact.

(d)          The records are pressed on a RELATIVELY  thick, inflexible vinyl. This is NOT a thin, flimsy ('dynaflex' type),  vinyl, but not the thickest, most rigid vinyl, either.

THE BOX IS (WEAK) NEAR MINT:

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the box:

-        The box has JUST A HINT of ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 1 (BARELY VISIBLE).

-        The box shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.

-        The box has one corner slightly worn (BARELY VISIBLE)

-        Minor shelf wear noted on the sides of the box (nothing significant)
