Ok, so is this album as good as The Gilded Palace Of Sin. No. But it's still better than the majority of the shit that was being pumped out of Nashville at the time. Hell, it's still better than the majority of the stuff being pumped out of Nashville today. It still stands on its own as a great album, it just has the unfortunate status of being in the shadow of The Gilded Palace. But if this album didn't do much for you, I encourage you to try to listen to it on its own merit. Pretend you have never heard Gilded Palace before. Chances are, you'll find the good stuff buried within this album. I played it once in the record store I work at, and a customer who had no idea who The Flying Burrito Brothers were went crazy for it. He kept asking what this was that we were playing, and saying that he loved it and was going to listen to it when he got home. I told him "just wait till you listen to The Gilded Palace Of Sin", to which he responded "man, I'm listening to their whole discography when I get home"! If this album can make an immediate fan out of a first time listener, then there must some good stuff to it. And there is! Opener Lazy Day is a more Chuck Berry influenced rocker written a few days earlier, and it is such a fun way to open the album. Their cover of Bob Dylan's If You Gotta Go, Go Now is a party packed into just under 2 minutes. I almost wish it could be longer, but they did all they needed to do with it in 1:52. Older Guys was the single from this track, and it has some great guitar work from Bernie Leadon. And the ooh ooh ooh's are another nice little touch to the song. And while I don't care much for religious music. I do really enjoy Farther Along. Even before singing it at Clarence White's funeral, you can tell by listening to this rendition that the song means a lot to Gram Parsons. And the best song on here to me is their version of Wild Horses. It's technically not a cover since The Rolling Stones gave it to them before they officially released theirs. And while I do like the Stones' version, The Burrito Bros version is wayyyyy better than their version in my opinion. Gram just conveys the sensitivity in the lyrics way better than Mick Jagger does. Even just the way that Gram sings the line "or off stage lights" is better than anything about the Rolling Stones' recording. While there are a couple of duds on here, overall this is a really good country rock album that deserves all 33 minutes of your time.

·      CONDITION:

·      THE RECORD

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)         WE GRADE THE VINYL AS EXCELLENT. This is one of those albums that are somewhat difficult to grade. It is somewhere between VG++ and NEAR MINT, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow, superficial  and only moderately visually distracting (nothing significant). For the most part, the vinyl looks impeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)         The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)         The record comes in the original stock inner sleeve.

(d)         Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·                          THE COVER

THE COVER IS ABOUT VERY GOOD+(+)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-       Cover has a small cutout hole in one of the corners

-       Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3

-       Back cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record),  probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.

-       Cover shows some light yellowing on back side, apparently from aging (nothing significant)

-       Cover has a partially split bottom seam (between 1 and 2 inches  / 2.5 to 5 centimeters)

-       Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine

-       Visible shelf wear noted on the bottom seam and spine

-       Cover has two corners slightly dinged (nothing significant)

-       Back cover has a few yellowish dust speckles scattered here and there (these tiny spots are not overly obtrusive or distracting)

NO OTHER VISIBLE FLAWS OR IMPERFECTIONS ON THE  COVER
