Rarity: Moderate, this album sold well but here I am offering a beautiful sounding, hardly played UK pressed copy. So many of these were pressed outside the United Kingdom and the genuine British copies are not so easily found. This also has a lovely cover and four unsplit inners.

Brief Info: Although a very popular album that did sell well, it failed to reach the dizzy heights of its precedessor, the massively popular ‘Rumours’. A highly ambitious double set that cost a fortune to produce and market. Elaborate packaging with incredible production and an album with more variation than the previous two. For me, this is the crowning achievement of this version of Fleetwood Mac – Stevie Nicks compositions are simply delectable. A copy hardly played on the evidence in front of me with audiophile sound to match. The packing equally as fine too. Since issue, this has been one of my favourite hi-fi test albums and this one will make any worthy system excel.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT(++): a very wide and thick cover with a box-like construction that is more like a slipcase than a cover. A single format, no lamination and the front panel is embossed. The rest of the surfaces are very lightly textured and this was printed and made in England by Garrod & Lofthouse. Yes a real UK-made example, many are EU pressings.

Cover Front: A cover that is often seen crushed and badly creased with tatty entrance areas. This has little to fault, a light crease near the bottom right corner with any marks very few and faint. It retains a geniune freshness and has not aged or flattened at all.

Cover Back: Very similar again with the merest hint of a burr trace to the top end panel (but look very hard).

Top & Bottom Edges: Both practically unworn, erect and unflattened or crushed. A gentle crease near the right corner as mentioned above.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, sharp with minimal hints of any wear. Any thickening or burring beyond slight and this opening edge remains open and not crushed. This is guaranteed untrimmed.

Spine and Text: Solid and very thick, straight, uncompressed and square with barely any traces of wear at all. All text is pristine perfect as is the face itself and also the folds.

Corners: Gentle creasing on the bottom right, anything else ultra light with barely any rubbing. Sliding thick card double weight inners inside this cover will usually take it’s toll, but it appears this has seldom happened on this one as excellent or better shape is retained.

Cover Summary: A very strong all-round example of this deceptively fragile late 70’s cover, one that will prove very difficult to find much better. This highly attractive item should please most collectors.

The Inners: EXCELLENT(++) to PRACTICALLY MINT: two have a semi-shiny finish, the other two more matt – all have the G&L imprint. All clean, fresh with no edge splits or repairs. The odd faint thumb crease and one or two tiny tip creases but little else.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: MINT(-) / EXCELLENT(++): record two has a light surface dull in manufacture that has NO audio effect whatsoever. A super visual pair that are very clean, shiny, intense black and solidly pressed. A pair probably played once or twice only. Visually lovely records that should please many, if not most collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or miniscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: Both records play even above their high visual grading with practically nothing to fault. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is astonishing with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. This set has the highest quality production and was often used by magazines as a reference album to test high fidelity equipment back in the late 70s/early 80s which I also did myself. Any surface sounds are minuscule and no pops or clicks were noted and this is an exceptional clean pressing. This not always guaranteed and this does have some gentle songs, but this is a beauty. The title song, a somewhat surprising hit single, is stunning when played at volume with amazing dynanics, channel separation and imagery of the drums. Both McVie’s and Nicks vocals are sublime with a true in-the-room presence and all crystal clear. No expense was spared in making this quite magnificent album which I rate as one of their very best. Not as commercial as previous but no less magnificent. Few copies will match or outperform this original UK pressing I feel sure. I am certain both records have hardly been played and barely run-in in vinyl terms, clearly well stored and carefully handled, almost certainly in a non-smoking environment. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading these scarcer UK pressed records. This set will prove very dificult to find better and my highest recommendation is mandatory.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). The record(s) are REMOVED from their main cover to avoid edge splits and placed within a brand new polylined inner. The record’s original inner will be included if available. The boxes are then reinforced with at least TWO, ULTRA THICK stiffeners for maximum extra protection – these are FOUR TIMES thicker than commercial stiffeners and are custom-made for oneadayrecords. SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
