DIRE No. 2 Lp by THE FLAVIO AMBROSETTI JAZZ STARS production and artistic direction by TITO FONTANA. Original Italian 1st pressing on the DIRE label (FO 334), from circa 1968. Incredible Lp by the cult musicians, recorded in Milan, September 1967 and released with iconic picture sleeve artwork. A really stylish session that cooks and burns, mixing up beautiful modern jazz with hard bop / modal / exotic and elements of the free jazz movement of the period. Every track is superb. Our soundclip opens with the George Gruntz penned theme SUNDAY WALK followed by the stunning, Japanese inspired ballad, SANKUTSU MOOD / CHEOPS and finishes with the contemporary / harder edged DIG O DAD. Shades of the Santucci Scoppa sound by Flavio and Franco. Immaculate playing with fantastic solos over a rhythm section featuring some of the hottest French jazzmen. Laminated gatefold sleeve with liner notes by Arrigo Polillo and amazing images of the group inside. Short, notated message and autograph by Franco Ambrosetti (of A Jazz Portrait Durium label fame) inside the gatefold. One for the euro jazz connoisseur and seldom heard too ;) Pop art inspired sleeve artwork by Giulio Confalonieri. Rare Lp!!! Full tracklisting: OUR SUITE DIG / CHEOPS / DIG O DAD / SUNDAY WALK / SANKUTSU MOOD / CAPRICCI CAVALLESCHI

Musicians:

Flavio Ambrosetti - alto sax

Franco Ambrosetti - trumpet

George Gruntz - piano

Guy Pedersen / Gilbert "Bibi" Rovere  - bass / double bass / contrabass / contrabbasso

Daniel Humair - drums & percussion

Our record grading: SEALED / M- / VG++ / VG+ / VG

Vinyl is closer to shiny, M- condition overall with a few hairlines. Light surface noises. A few soft pops in places (as you can hear on our soundclip). The laminated gatefold sleeve is closer to M- condition overall with minimal light wear. Just one light ding to front top right corner. A few dirt speckles in the laminate. Perfect spine / sharp edges etc. Signed by Franco Ambrosetti on the inner gatefold. Camera flash glare to sleeve and label photo. Rare Lp!!!
