Description

Various Artists: "San Francisco Sound - Fifth Pipedream Volume I" 1968, USA/San Francisco Sound Records S7-11680. Disc is in great EX to M- shape visually, I heard just a few light ticks in the opening track, so VG++. Cover has some minor overall wear, some rubbed areas along the bottom of the back side, etc. No splits or writing or stickers, it's been well-kept! I give this cover a strong VG+ grade. Ultra-rare original privately-distributed black and white art cover version from 1968, not the "colorized" commercial edition that came a bit later and was sold in stores and afforded some degree of national distribution. This tiny "advance" edition was local to the Bay Area scene, pressed up for reviewers, club owners and the band members and it's impossible to turn up; it's from my back yard and I've only ever seen two copies! And in case you don't know, this is a fantastic compilation; maybe the best ever from the 1960s for psych collectors! It has the (amazing) first recordings by Tripsichord Music Box and It's A Beautiful Day, and Indian Puddin' & Pipe do a few tracks, including the intense eastern psych monster "Hashish". Black Swan also appear (and promptly disappeared), making this the only way to hear them at all. The jacket is a real eyeball-popper, it will keep you entertained for many, many plays. There are about a thousand hippie faces and trippy art inside the gatefold! Chills ran down my spine when I found this back in the mid-1980s, it somehow just has a different "aura" than the color cover edition that I was already familiar with, and I knew right away that I'd found the prototype... Have a look at the photos below. Grading is strict and all items are guaranteed. There is no reserve!  Be sure to check out my other auctions for more stuff like this!

POSTAGE AND PACKING NOTES FOR ALL CUSTOMERS: A percentage of my shipping charges are for the box and insert pad(s); I use RIGID CARDBOARD BOXES MADE FOR MAILING RECORDS, I don't use those free cheapo boxes the Post Office hands out, or those worthless padded bags! Also, I will never mail you an album with the record still inside the jacket! I'll even take the same precautions with company and printed inner sleeves. PLEASE NOTE: I have set my shipping prices to cover my cost on an average basis. Your box may cost me a bit less to mail than I charged you, or a bit more. Records and jackets don't all weigh the same amount, therefore I can't set a "perfect" price for everyone, ESPECIALLY INTERNATIONAL! The price for mailing one album to Europe can vary by as much as $3.00.

POSTAGE RATES USA: 1 album by Priority Mail is $6.00, 2 albums is $7.50. Media Mail is slower, slightly less expensive and much more likely to arrive damaged. 1-2 albums by Media Mail is $4.00. I will quote you rates for larger orders. If you want me to double-box your order for extra protection, ask me to quote you a price.

INSURANCE RATES USA: If your item is worth under $50, there is a "cheap" insurance available for $1.30. This type of insurance offers no security; the postman can leave this package behind with your other mail. "Real" insurance that requires a signature at your end for delivery is available for the following rates: $0-$100, $2.20. $101-$200, $3.20. $201-$300, $4.20. I've never lost a package in the USA, but a couple have been damaged and the insurance paid off. Loss or damage is your responsibility once the box is in the mail, so consider the insurance...

FOREIGN POSTAGE RATES: I do not recommend Surface Mail and will not offer you rates here. The following rates are for uninsured Airmail: CANADA: 1 album: $6.00. 2 albums, $7.00. MEXICO, U.K., EUROPE, SOUTH AMERICA, ASIA, AUSTRALIA, N.Z.: 1 album, $12.00. 2 albums, 14.00. I will quote a price to any customer with a larger order. If you want me to double-box your order for extra protection, ask me to quote you a price. If your package is valuable, Registered Mail is available to most countries. Registration is an additional $8.00 on any parcel. I recommend Registered mail for all parcels to Italy & Mexico but all orders are carefully packed and are rarely lost or damaged!
