Fairport Convention : Full House A-3 / B-3 1st Press Pink 'I' Label 1970

This first pressing plays with superb audio with only one brief section of interference as detailed below.  The vinyl does have some hairlines but they are superficial as it does plays with stunning clarity overall.  The depth and warmth of the audio is so impressive - S1 still plays with great quality but S2 is superb and then some!

The textured E.J. Day cover has some light marking either side of the spine but otherwise remains in excellent condition and the inner sleeve has only light wear.

As this is a first pressing the track listing is printed in gold on a black square on the back cover.  The original listing included 'Poor Will & The Jolly Hangman' which was omitted from the record but only after the covers were always printed.

Visual description

The vinyl still has a glossy look and has no actual marks or scratches.  Under a bright light you can see a number of faint hairlines but in a way that just shows you how robust vinyls from the late 60 / early 70s were as they barely any affect on the audio.  The pink 'i' labels are very clean with no marking / writing, just some spindle wear.

Play grading  

The intro on 'Walk Awhile' has no background and the opening chorus / verse / chorus then play with perfectly clarity also.  The following instrumental is equal to that and the second verse has no intrusion either.  The next chorus does have one dull click sound and there are a small number of light ticks at the end of the next instrumental / verse but they are not loud.  The remainder plays very clearly without any interference.  The majority is Mint but I will grade that one brief section as VG

There are a couple of intrusive pops in the dead wax and then 'Dirty Linen' plays with stunning quality from start to finish without any background.  The clarity and depth of the recording is sensational and it is Mint in every way.

The intro on 'Sloth' is near perfect with just one minor static and the opening vocal section again has just one light static sound.  The first instrumental plays so clearly with only the bare minimum of light static for 2/3 seconds and a couple of light statics and from then on it plays stunning quality.  As the volume increases the playback is incredible!  There is so much depth and power here and the clarity is incredible also, there is no interference at all.  You can see why it is a live favourite!  The next quiet passage has only very minimal light static and the final vocal is very clean with barely any static.  I think ranging between Ex+ and Mint is about right, the vast majority does indeed play with impeccable quality.

The intro on 'Sir Patrick Spens' has no intrusion and the opening vocal section is nigh on perfect with only a couple of barely audible statics.  It continues to play with outstanding clarity through every vocal and instrumental section.  There are no negatives, the audio is so clean and precise and Mint- is deserved although I'm not sure the minus should be on there!

The instrumental 'Flatback Caper' plays with sublime clarity and depth through the entire 6+ minutes.  There is literally no background to be heard and Mint is the only grade I can give.  Just played it again and the sonic quality truly is STUNNING!

'Doctor Of Physick' then plays with superb audio from the get go.  The intro is flawless, as clean as it was back in '70, and the first verse / chorus is just as strong.  It continues in the same way with no ticks, clicks, pops or static.  Ok the record may have some hairlines but it is certainly not affecting the sonic 'landscape'.  The playback is so clean and 'fresh' and Mint is again deserved.

The quiet intro on 'Flowers Of The Forest' plays beautifully and the first vocal has no interference either.  From then on it plays with genuine clarity and with only a small number of insignificant dust ticks that you barely notice anyway.  There is one dull click at the end of the fade out but it seems a bit harsh to downgrade it due to it being literally at the end!  Let's say Near Mint but it is undeniably a superb finish to what I think is an underrated album.

In summary this first pressing plays with superb audio for the vast majority.  There is only one 'obvious' section of interference on the first track as described above.  Overall the clarity and depth of the audio is stunning and the winning bidder will not be disappointed.

The Cover & Inner Sleeve

 The textured E.J. Day cover is in excellent condition with only a little shelf wear.  The edges have only light rubbing and the wide spine is only slightly angled with only minimal wear.  The right hand corners are in excellent shape overall and the opening edge has hardly any handling wear.  The front cover has some faint marking down running down next to the spine and a couple of very small faint marks on the right side.  The back cover has some light marking on the right side and one minor scuff near the bottom edge.  The inside of the gatefold is perfect with no marking.

The plain white die-cut inner sleeve just has one very small side split and a small number of very faint marks / spots.  Minimal creasing only.

Play tested on my Rega P2 with AT-VM95EN Cart / Denon PMA-520AE Amp / B&W 684 Speakers

This record has been cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
