FAIRPORT CONVENTION: 1968 UK POLYDOR STEREO DEBUT LP MINT-
FULLY LAMINATED EJ DAY SLEEVE, BEAUTIFUL COPY, 1 PLAY
FAIRPORT CONVENTIONFairport Convention
UK POLYDOR (583 035 ) FIRST *STEREO* PRESSING (June 1968) OF FAIRPORT CONVENTION'S DEBUT LP
STUNNING COPY - ONCE PLAYED AND THE FINEST ORIGINAL 1968 PRESSING YOU COULD WISH FOR - PRACTICALLY AS-NEW
By far the most rock-oriented of Fairport Convention's early albums, this debut was recorded before Sandy Denny joined the band (Judy Dyble handles the female vocals).
Unjustly overlooked by listeners who consider the band's pre-Denny output insignificant, this is a fine folk-rock effort that takes far more inspiration from West Coast '60s sounds than traditional British folk.
Fairport's chief strengths at this early juncture were the group's interpretations, particularly in the harmony vocals, of obscure tunes by American songwriters such as Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Emitt Rhodes, and Jim & Jean.
Their own songs weren't quite up to that high standard, but were better than many have given them credit for, with "Decameron" and "Sun Shade" in particular hitting wonderfully fetching melancholic moods.
It's true that Fairport would devise a more original style after Denny joined, but the band-members' first-class abilities as more American pop-folk-rock-styled musicians on this album shouldn't be undersold.

M1 Breakdown
LABELS: MINT-
Clean, unmarked labels with one light spindle trace on Side A, none on Side B which indicates Side B has possibly only ever been played once and Side A not played at all
VINYL Visual: MINT-
Both vinyl surfaces are unmarked and shine like-new
VINYL Audio: MINT-
Play-checked at loud volume the sound performance is immaculate (bar ONE tiny pop on "Decameron " - impossibly minor and no evidence for this on the vinyl surface - no doubt present from manufacture) otherwise, exceptionally clean and crystal clear sound throughout with no other issues of any kind - a beautiful copy which plays just as it would have done, brand new, back in the summer of 1968
SLEEVE: NEAR MINT
Again, a wonderful example - no real edge or spine wear to speak of - all spine text is clear and bold - and the laminated surfaces display only a little rubbing but still retain their original deep glossy sheen
