There has always been this illusion that because the sleeve has "File Under Pop" on the back of the sleeve, top right corner that it's a second press, this is nonsense. The matrix and stampers determine what pressing the vinyl is and just because a small line of text has been added to the back of the sleeve does not mean that the vinyl is a second pressing.
Yes, there has been an alteration to the sleeve and a purist will want the copy without the "File Under Pop" text and I can under stand that but the vinyl is still a 1st pressing as shown by the matrix and stampers. The two variants were only months apart and the same stampers where used for both variants, hence the matrix and stampers shown.
What I do find unusual is the 'Factory Sample' sticker on this copy. I can only assume that it was one of the first copies produced with the new text on the back cover and was used as a reference in the factory or was given to management to show the changes and that it needed to be signed off before mass production, who knows? There are probably numerous reasons why but I guess we will never know. All I do know is that this copy is in stunning condition, both the sleeve and the vinyl.
VINYL: EX+
Vinyl has a nice gloss on both sides and produces wonderful audio throughout. A few light hairlines noticeable in bright light but nothing deep or nasty or really that noticeable at all to be honest. Clean and glossy vinyl both sides with minimal signs of use. Superb audio, loud, clear and well balanced pressing with a punch.
SLEEVE: EX
Beautiful condition, no nasty rips or seam splits. No writing or sticker/sticker removal marks. Clean front and back, tidy flip-back tabs, straight edges and spine with clear and easily readable text. Has the original EMI inner sleeve also in great condition, no rips or splits.
LABELS: EX
Superb labels on both sides, just a few wispy spindle lines each side.
