Another rare and hard to find 1960s UK Jazz Stereo LP record from our private collection
"Extrapolation" by John McLaughlin, featuring John Surman. Rare late 60s UK Jazz Marmalade 608007 (Stereo) First Pressing A/1 and B/1 with characteristic orange and white label.This historically significant set is innovative guitarist John McLaughlin's first recording as a leader. Although McLaughlin wrote all ten pieces, it also features baritone saxist John Surman who dominates some tracks, often swinging quite hard. There's excellent accompaniment from Brian Odges on Bass and Tony Oxley on drums.
The sleeve notes (complete with other typos also!) say that the track "It's Funny" has unheard lyrics from "Dussy Dower", who is actually singer Duffy Power. We will shortly be offering his album "Innovations" that includes the vocal version.
Soon after this album was recorded in 1969 Mclaughlin left for the USA to join Tony Williams Lifetime and later Miles Davis.
Condition Vinyl - Excellent, it looks and plays near mint. No scratches, clicks or pops. Labels show very little evidence of play. Cover - The matt front cover has the almost inevitable ring mark, but is otherwise clean. There is a scuff on the top right edge and the bottom left corner (see photos). The reverse has slight storeage wear at the bottom. Graphics and text are clear on both sides. Inner sleeve - The original plastic lined is intact is intact with slight age discolouration.NB: Other rare LPs listed and soon to be listed
