Description

redgarnett Store ITEM DESCRIPTION:

This superb 3-LP album – a still-sealed copy – from Westminster (WMS-1011, US pressing, label iteration unknown, mono) gathers together three separate LPs that legendary violinist Erica Morini made for the label during the mid- to late-1950s.

The first LP is devoted to Erica Morini's lyrical account of Brahms's Violin Concerto in D Major Op. 77, accompanied in warmly sympathetic fashion by Artur Rodzinski and the Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra of London (Beechams's RPO) – recorded at London's Walthamstow Assembly Hall in September 1956. Morini's rendtion is well within the Heifetz, Oistrakh, Kogan class.

The second LP is given over to Morini’s commanding reading of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D major Op. 35. Rodzinski and Beecham’s RPO again did the honors in the same September 1956 sessions held at Walthamstow Assembly Hall.

The third LP offers the listener a chance to hear Morini in a delectable selection of encore works, recorded with pianist Leon Pommers in New York in December 1954. Here Morini plays Chaminade’s Sérénade espagnole, Gluck’s Mélodie from Orphée et Euridice, the Canzonetta from Godard’s Concerto romantique Op. 35, Sarasate’s Faust-Fantasie, Heuberger’s Der Opernball – Im chambre séparée, Kreisler’s Caprice viennois Op. 2, Liebeslied, Variations on a Theme of Corelli, and Schön rosmarin, the Minuet from Mozart’s Divertimento No. 17 in C Major K. 334 (arr. Kross), Paradis’ Sicilienne in E-flat Major (arr. Dushkin), Schubert’s Ave Maria D. 839 (arr. Wilhelmj), Tchaikovsky’s Neopolitan Song Op. 39 No. 18 (arr. Burmester) and the same composer’s Song without words Op. 2 No. 3 (arr. Sweet).

PLEASE NOTE:

Even with minimal packaging this set will weigh just over 1 kg. This means that outside of Europe the cost for shipping is about $40 USD, and that is just for standard airmail. Certified airmail (with a tracking number) costs $43 USD.

Those in doubt can visit the Spanish postal website (Correos.com), which is available in English. Although this listing states “free” shipping, it is not really free, of course. I have to pay for shipping like everyone else.

Anyway, all this to say that those who feel the price is high need to take the cost of shipping into account, so please keep this in mind when making a “best offer”. If you have any questions or doubts, feel free to write and I will be happy to help. Thank you.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the album is EXCELLENT. Although this is a still-sealed copy, there is a slight bend to the upper spine and some fraying to the shrinkwrap. Otherwise, the album remains in fine condition – overall, an excellent collector’s copy.

The condition of the 3LPs is MINT throughout. These are still-sealed, unplayed copies – the ideal collector's copies.
