CARUSO ON BLUE ZONOPHONE
There has been much controversy over which recordings were Caruso's first. Possibly Pathe or G.& T. or the famous Zonophone records. Who knows?
Certainly the Zonophone's are the most exotic. Also the date of the session in Milan is in debate. 1900, 1901, 1902.
Caruso was born in 1873, so you do the math. He was quite young. Here's a little trivia. He was the 18th child born to poor parents. Only
three survived childhood. We were all lucky he lived.He also lived in the same apt. house where Babe Ruth once lived.
This Record (Un Bacio Ancora ) has to be considered to be "very good" to "great." There are four tiny clicks after the beginning but the stylus glides over them easily on my "Orthophonic Phonograph" and there is little background noise. You may want to use a light weight pickup which would bring out the background noise. The pictures show two glue filled areas on the back side. Neither of these appear on the front and do not interfere with the sound.
The label is clear, however there are some small "dots" (see picture) and I'm not sure what they are.
The anouncer mentions the composer's name which is unusual even for a Zonophone.
I've had this record in my collection for over twenty years, but now it's time to thin out.
