Encores David Oistrakh UK Columbia SAX 2253
David Oistrakh with Vladimir Yampolsky performs eight works often used by Oistrakh as encore pieces. They include Debussy’s “Claire de Lune”, “Extase” by Ysaye”, Wieniawski’s “Legende” and others by Zarzycki, Kodaly, Suk, Tchaikovsky and Falla. An English stereo pressing on the Columbia Label (SAX 2253) the labels are blue/green with silver radio waves and border, and black stereophonic flash, and this is a “pancake” pressing. The record is of worn appearance with small marks and scuffs and it plays and sounds superb (excellent recording) with consistent surface noise. The playing is desert-island disc worthy. The cover is badly worn and grubby.
