Description
The Album - This is a very rare original first original UK pressing of Elvis Presley’s first album Rock n Roll released on the HMV label in 1956, 33rpm.
It is in excellent condition with virtually unmarked HMV labels with very little wear around the spindle holes.
Side 1 is stamped with Matrix No. 2X AV 255 - 1N and Side 2, 2X AV 256 – 1N
Catalogue No. CLP. 1053 with CLP.1053 on both sides and all tracks are listed and numbered on both sides.
The vinyl is very very clean, there’s a light crackle at the lead in but nothing really noticeable during playing on my record player.
There are no surface marks or scratches so no bumps or jumps and the photo showing the Matrix number on side 1 shows the superb quality of the vinyl. The vinyl on side 2 is of similar quality
The label – Both sides in excellent condition with virtually no wear around the spindle hole. All tracks 1-6 on both are numbered as shown in photos.
The jacket cover – This is in very good condition for its age. The laminate style cellophane is loose in a couple of places near the edge of the opening where on the front edge of the sleeve are two small tears in the cardboard both of about 2cm. To maintain the true authenticity I have not repaired this on the inside with tape.
There’s another tear of less than 1cm at the bottom edge on the opening side but otherwise the bottom spine is virtually unmarked.
On the side spine the wording Elvis Presley is clearly visible, with wear to the laminate of the Rock n Roll wording though it is more or less still visible.
The top spine has some very light wear with no tears.
The innersleeve - I believe is the original plain white on the reverse side with on the front of the sleeve the following wording in purple ink "Take good care of your records. Check your gramophone needle regularly. A worn needle will give poor reproduction of your records. A chipped needle will permanently damage them.
It is more or less perfect with slight discolouration on the opening edge more from sticking out of the album cover than from sticky fingers. The sleeve is quite tight fitting inside the cover which adds to my thought that combined with so little visible wear to the record spindle hole that the late relative from whom I have been passed this and a number of other records did not play it too often.
