Description

ELVIS PRESLEY "LOVE ME TENDER"/"ANYWAY YOU WANT ME".  RCA 20-6643.  EXCEPTIONALLY GOOD CONDITION.

This is a relatively rare Elvis Presley RCA 78 RPM single released in 1956 (RCA 20-6643).  One side features Elvis Presley singing "Love Me Tender", the other, "Anyway You Want Me".

This one-owner record was purchased in the late 1950s by a caring owner.  It was played but not abused over a period of about four years when the owner married and developed different musical interests.  It has been securely stored in a sleeve and unplayed since 1963.

There is very little sign of wear on either side of the record.  There are no scratches or cuts.  The labels on both side are very clean.  There are some very slight spindle marks(see photos), but the center hole appears intact.  The shellac has held it shine.  I am not a record collector, and I have not listened to this record (I don't want to risk scratching it), but judging by its appearance, if I were to use the VJM Record Grading System, I believe it would rate it a grade of E to E+.

Although difficult to show accurately in a photograph, the shellac has kept a reasonably heavy shine.

The words and music to "Love Me Tender" are credited to Ken Darby, written under the pseudonym "Vera Matson", the name of his wife, and Elvis Presley.  The song was adapted from the tune "Aura Lee", a sentimental Civil War ballad.  The RCA Victor recording for sale here was Number 1 on both the Billboard and Cashbox charts in 1956.  It was featured in the movie of the same name which was Elvis Presley's first film, and in many other films such as FM, Touched By Love, This is Elvis, Porky's Revenge, Wild at Heart, Die Hard 2, Honeymoon in Vegas, Backbeat, Gaudi Afternoon, Machine Gun Molly, Royal Engagement, California Dreamin', and several others.

Record will be protected in shipping by rigid foamboard and bubble wrap "sandwich".
