Description
Elvis Presley with The Jordanaires, RCA Victor EPA 5088 45 EP. Tracks include “Hard Headed Woman”, “Good Rockin’ Tonight”, “Don’t”, and “I Beg of You”, vinyl with a generic paper sleeve. Vinyl is NM, label is VG to VG+ because of some ring wear on side two.
But wait! That’s not all. The winner of this auction will also get a second Elvis EP. This is one I don’t feel I want to list alone as it’s condition is VG. This is Elivs (with the orndaniires) RCA Victor EPA 4054 45 EP. Tracks include “There’ll Be Peace in the Valley”, “It Is No Secret”, “I Believe” and “Take My Hand, Precious Lord”. The vinyl might be VG+ but because of wear I would say the label is only VG. This is simply a bonus. The auction is really just for the EPA-5088.
I’m listing a number of Elvis recordings, all coming off on Sunday, the 15th. Shipping on one or more items will be $5.00.
I use the Goldmine Record Album Price Guide grading system (all records are visually inspected rather than played unless otherwise noted):
Mint – An LP that is still sealed in the original shrink-wrap and seemingly in perfect condition. However, without breaking open the shrink-wrap it is impossible to see if there is any warping of the vinyl. No 45s or 78s will fall into this category.
Near Mint (NM ) A nearly perfect record. The record will show no obvious signs of wear. If it is an LP, the jacket will have no ceases, folds, seam splits, hole punches, cut corners or any other noticeable similar defects.
Very Good Plus (VG+) or Excellent (E). A recording rated as VG+ or E will show some signs that it was played and otherwise handled by a previous owner who took good care of it. Record surfaces may show some slight signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that won’t effect listening. The ring may have some ring wear of discoloration, but it should be barely noticeable. The center hole won’t be misshapen. If an LP, the jacket may also have slight signs of wear and may be marred by a hole punch, indentation or cut corner indicating the recording was a promo or was sold at a discount.
Very Good (VG). Many of the defects found in a VG+ will be more pronounced in a VG record. Surface noise will be evident upon playing, especially in soft passages and during a song’s intro and fade, but will not otherwise overpower the music. Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as will light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound. Labels may be marred by writing, or have tape or stickers (or their residue) attached. The same may be true of picture sleeves or LP jackets. However, it will not have all of these problems at the same time, only two or three of them.
Good (G) or Good Plus (G+). Good does not mean bad! A record in Good or Good Plus condition can be put onto a turntable and will play through without skipping. It may have significant surface noise and scratches and visible groove wear. A jacket or sleeve may have seam splits, especially at the bottom or on the spine. Tape, writing, ring wear or other defects may start to overwhelm the object.
