Welcome to Elvis Week at Great Lakes Records
Each year a candlelight vigil is held at Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee to commemorate the passing of Elvis Presley -- The King of Rock and Roll. This year, Elvis Week runs from Saturday, August 7th, through Monday, August 16th. You can visit <www.elvis.com> for more information about this event.
It was 27 years ago, August 16, 1977. Shortly after midnight, Elvis Presley returned to his Graceland home following a late-night visit to his dentist. The next evening he was scheduled to fly into Maine to do a show in Portland on the 17th, kicking off yet another concert tour. He stayed up all night working on some last minute show details, then settled down to relax with his staff and family. At about 7:00am, he went to his master suite to get some rest before the flight. By late morning, Elvis Presley was dead. The official cause of death was heart failure. His death was announced in mid-afternoon -- and in just a matter of hours the news shocked the entire world.
Here at Great Lakes Records, we honor the memory of Elvis Presley this week with his most precious music. Vinyl records have become collector's items and many of them are quite rare these days -- especially in good condition. Elvis Presley records are great investments, as they will surely grow even more valuable over time. For example, original Elvis records on the Sun label have more than tripled in value over the past several years.
Have fun bidding. We hope you win the records you want!
Some friendly advice: Unlike a live auction, the last bidder is not always the winner on eBay. You can avoid losing the items you want to last-minute bidders by bidding high enough to beat them. Often people lose eBay auctions in the last few seconds for just pennies more than what they thought was a winning bid. When you bid on eBay, you're actually entering a "proxy" bid. This just means you're telling eBay the most you'd be willing to pay for the item. Most of the time, you'll pay a lot less than the maximum you've entered. For example, if the starting bid for an item is $5, and you enter a proxy bid of $100, you'll win the item for $5 if nobody else bids. But, if someone sneaks in a $10 bid at the last moment, eBay will automatically outbid that person for you and you'll win the item for $10.50. The most you'll pay is your proxy bid amount, but only if someone bids just below it. By the way, these last-minute bidders are probably not sitting at their computer waiting for these auctions to end. There are many ways to program in last-minute bids, either using software you can buy and download, or online services such as Bidnapper.com. If you want to become a "bid sniper" yourself, check out these options. These last-minute bidders often win stuff on eBay for a lot less than what it's actually worth.
