SUPREMELY RARE Elvis collectable! A NO-RESERVE 7-day auction!
This is a genuine STUDIO ACETATE or Lacquer (more accurately, though the former term is still used, even though the era of acetates ended in the 1930's!) that was pressed for one of the production team associated with the 1983 release "I Was The One". This release was and IS to my knowledge the first and only time the original master tapes were sourced and remixed for an "update" of some of the classic Elvis titles from the 50s and 60s.
This is a DIRECT TO DISC recording off of the actual STUDIO MASTERS, a rare treat for the ears, as it is an actual FIRST GENERATION custom pressing of the music of ELVIS… I have seen NO OTHER examples like this in all of my years of collecting.
I did a fair amount of research to figure this one out, because I was excited and a little confused when I heard the tracks on this lacquer disc… the songs were familiar… but somehow 'different' in both mix and fidelity!
Elvis alumni David Briggs and Tony Brown produced this foray into the remix and remaster area with all of the surviving original Elvis performers, including DJ Fontana, Scotty Moore and the original Jordanaires (and many others) to produce this updated version of these Elvis classics. The Acetate presented here was of the first mixes and the mastering used back in 1983 to be used on the subsequent release… the result was, in my opinion, pretty nice and did succeed in a nice and subtle updating of the original tracks, and in true STEREO in some cases where there had been no previous stereo version! The drums, guitar, piano and vocals were mixed and engineered in a way that was not heavy handed in the slightest and the tracks actually benefit from the treatment.
This is a chance to get a GENUINE RCA studio Acetate from the KING! I have had literally TONS of collectables over the years, but very few at this level and rarity! Because this is a delicate studio lacquer, it is sold as-is for its collectible nature and though I played this, you may only do so at your own risk. Sold as-is and as described, and will be insured against damage from the USPS.
The condition of the acetate is EXCELLENT, with little to no play. There is very moderate checking of the vinyl or "wax" coating that does not affect play. The labels are all hand written or hand typed and original… the LP is pressed only on one side. The acetate is a standard soft vinyl covered aluminum core from the era. There was likely only a handful of these made at the time and only for members of the production team or band members… likely there was only ONE of these made during the mastering phase. Making this a TRUE one-of-a-kind pressing!
