"Elvis Presley" Very RARE German Press for U.S. Armed Forces! No Reserve!
Elvis Presley - "Elvis Presley" RCA Records. Super Hard to find Elvis Rarity! The best information that I can come up with says that this pressing of The King's Self Titled first album was one that was pressed in Germany for U.S. Servicemen stationed Overseas at the time! The fact that I got it along with a bunch of other Armed Forces Radio items lends some credence to this.
I'm not an Elvis expert so here is what I can tell you. The cover appears to be a standard issue U.S. First Pressing - it is labeled "Printed In U.S.A.". It does have on the back cover an Embossed Price Tag that I believe is either added by the Record Company as part of the pressing or by either the German Goverment or U.S. Armed Forces as part of the importing. I'm not really sure what the process was at the time but I have seen these tags on other German "Export" LPs intended for U.S. Servicemen.
The label is very interesting! It is Gloss Black with Silver Print in the German RCA Style rather that the typical U.S. label of the time but.... it is labeled "Made In U.S.A." in the print along the bottom perimeter! However, in the runoff area of the vinyl, there is a stamp stating clearly "Manufactured In Germany"! To be honest, it feels like a German pressing too, really meaty. So, exactly where each part of the package was made is a bit of a mystery, at least to me. My guess is that the Vinyl and Label are actually made in Germany despite the notice on the label. The Jacket... your guess is as good as mine. In any case, there are not a lot of these floating around any more! Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions to help clarify.
In pretty decent, though far from tip top, shape. The cover shows just some very slight ring wear but the top seam is split and the spine is split about half way. The corners all show a bit of "rounding off" too. Still, looks very presentable as long as you keep it in a sleeve (which I'm sure you'd do) so I'd say it would rate at least a strong G, and personally, I'd really call it more like VG despite the splits. The label doesn't show much wear as such but has a few spindle trail type scratches (mostly on side one) and a little wear right around the spindle hole itself. Basically, still very nice and at least VG if not better! The vinyl itself is also pretty nice. There are light overall scuffs but nothing deep or serious. Spot playing didn't turn up any pops or clicks just groove noise and some crackles but basically a good player and should still rate VG. No cutout holes or other promo markings!

Records are graded to the best of my ability to Goldmine Visual standards. If you are not familiar with this grading system (or even if you think you are!), please check it out before bidding I have summarized the important (i.e. I think everyone knows what Mint means) points below in Goldmine's words:
Very Good Plus (VG+): Record surfaces may show some slight signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experience. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK.
Very Good (VG): Surface noise will be evident upon playing,... Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as will light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound.
I stand by my grades but would like us to be on the same page so no problems arise. I have been selling Vintage Vinyl for over nine years on the net and I can count the returns I've had on one hand so I believe my grading is fair and accurate. One important note, I try to grade to these Goldmine guides as best as I can understand and apply them. This gives us both a written standard to go by rather than having to guess. But.... it also means that I don't issue refunds over differences of opinion in grading i.e. "That's not MY idea of a VG record!" - I don't know what your standards are and, as such, can't grade to them. I guarantee that items I sell will meet my description, nothing more or less! If you are not satisfied that a purchase meets my description, I will do what I can to make it right if you give me the chance and work with me! Please feel free to check my feedback.
