¨°o.O Super-rare Elton LP! O.o°¨

Description

Up for auction is the 12" vinyl LP Elton John - Live, a recording of Elton John live in concert.

This is a very hard-to-find LP these days, my guess is this is a mid-70s issue (a handwritten date in 1976 is written on the inner sleeve), on black vinyl. I have partially played the disc and can verify it is the Elton John concert as expected.

The album is packaged in a white cardboard sleeve, pasted to which is a blue & white slick (see pictures below).

The track listing is as follows:

SIDE 1
Tiny Dancer
Daniel
Susie (Dramas)
Your Song
Levon

SIDE 2
Can I Put You On
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters
Honky Cat

My research tells me that this recording is from Elton's 1973 US tour. Interestingly, this recording captures Elton performing without guitarist Davey Johnstone who, as Elton explains, is on this night in hospital in New York with a tooth abscess. Ouch! Anyway, this would seem to date this recording to sometime after Elton's NYC shows, which were on 23rd and 24th September 1973. So we get to hear Elton performing with only bass and drums to back him up, just like the early days.

This disc is on the Contra Band label - the rear of the sleeve features generic Contra Band artwork. The labels feature a sketch of Elton alongside the Contra Band pirate logo (a similar sketch also appears on the inner sleeve, apparently hand-drawn).

Be aware that the audio quality of this recording is not pristine, studio standard.

Will ship worldwide - international bidders please contact me for postage details. Any questions please ask.

Condition

The plain album sleeve has a few dings ands dents, some minor blemishes and dog-earing, but is overall in solid condition. The rear artwork is clean and bright. The slick has a small tear at the bottom and some creasing along the top, and a number written in light pencil (potentially removeable) in the centre. The labels are clean and unmarked.

The vinyl itself is in very good to excellent condition. Nice and shiny under light. There are a couple of small bumps visible on the vinyl mid-way through side one. I haven't played the disc all the way through, so I'm going by visual inspection. I skipped through a few songs and they sounded fine on my turntable.
