I Am The Blues
Elmore James (January 27, 1918 – May 24, 1963) was an American blues guitarist, singer, songwriter, band leader] He was known as "the King of the Slide Guitar" and had a unique guitar style, noted for his use of loud amplification and his stirring voice.
James played a wide variety of "blues" (which often crossed over into other styles of music) similar to that of Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf and some of B. B. King's work, but distinguished by his guitar's unique tone coming from a modified, hollow body traditional acoustic guitar, which sounded like an amped up version of the "more modern" solid body guitars. He most often played using a slide, but on several recordings he plays without. His voice and style were as instantly recognisable as King's, Muddy's and Wolf's and until he fell afoul of the Chicago union, he and his 'Broomdusters' were as popular in the Chicago clubs as any of these musicians' bands. James could be reportedly 'difficult' (drinking on the job, not paying out cash, abandoning musicians, double booking etc.)
Due to his early death, just prior to his 1963 "blues boom" tour intro, and the, "strange", silence of other famous blues performers, the then current music writers only being interested in 'the stars' not caring to interview his ex-band members, immediate family, children, friends et al., little is known about him. There are no known photos of James performing, apart from those taken (some at the following occasion, and some at a packed club with stylishly dressed couples dancing closely) by George Adins (God bless his Belgian ass!!), and no other detailed descriptions or any live recordings.
Many electric slide guitar players will admit to the influence of James' style. The most famous guitarist who admired Elmore James was Jimi Hendrix. James's music & style still today has immense influence upon today's modern blues icons, including the young Derek Trucks of the Allman Brothers and The Derek Trucks Band, who has attributed James as his most predominant influence, and inspiration.

RPM RECORDS: VINYL OLDIES
The Vinyl record grading standards provided below will help you to better understand the condition.
GOLDMINE grading standards used.
MINT (M) Absolutely perfect in every way.
Near Mint (M-) A nearly perfect record. The record shows no obvious sign of wear. The vinyl or sleeve should have at the most a very minor defect.
Very Good Plus,Plus VG++ May have a tiny scuff, light scratch or insignificgant defect that prevents me from grading it Near mint
Very Good Plus (VG+) Worth 1/2 the value of near mint. A VG+ will show signs of being played and handled. The vinyl will show signs of surface wear it may have scuffs or light scratches that don't affect the listening experience. They may have slight warps that do not affect the sound.
The label or picture sleeve may have light ringwear or discoloration. Jacket or P.S. might have a cut-out or bent corner (dog-ear) or a slight seam split.
Very Good(VG) Many of the defects found in a VG record will be more pronounced in a VG record.Surface noise will be evident when playing, especially in soft passages and during a songs intro and fade as well as between the tracks. The noise should not overpower the music.
Groove wear will start to be noticeable,as will light scratches (deep enough to feel with a finger nail) that will affect the sound.
Labels may have writing,or tape or stickers (or their residue)attached. The same will be true of picture sleeves.A VG record should have no more than 2 or 3 of these problems at the same time.Regardless of defects found in VG vinyl it is an inexpensive alternative to a NM copy.A VG record is a desirable addition for many collectors.
Good (G), Good Plus (GD+) Will have any one or more of the above listed defects. Either one can be played on a turntable without skipping. It will have significant surface noise and scratches as well as visible groove wear.
A sleeve will have seam splits.Tape, writing, ring wear or other defects will be much more pronounced.
Poor (P),Fair (F) Can be cracked, warped won't play through without skipping or repeating. The picture sleeve is water damaged ,split on all 3 sides or heavily laden with wear or writing. These would only be sought after if they are extremely rare and held until a better copy comes along.
