Elmo Hope "Elmo Hope Trio" 1960
RARE HiFi Records (1616), Mono, Promo
Elmo Hope, whose distinctive work on the piano critics have compared to Bud Powell and Thelonious Monk, has, in the decades since his early death, walked wide of popular acclaim and lasting recognition. His stuttering and offbeat style affirm the Monk comparisons, but on his trio album, Hope surfaces from jazz's River Lethe with an original artistic voice. Performed with Frank Butler and Jimmy Bond. Original mono recording, with a "Demonstration Only" stamp on the center label. This record is in VG+ condition, with a few light, "unfeelable" scuffs on the vinyl.
