Description

A 1st UK Pressing on the HMV label. Matrix MGV-1/1. Stampers 1M/1M. Tax Code 'RT' =1956. Stampers this early imply this pressing is from the first 2,000 copies ever produced. The heavy set vinyl comes housed in an original 1956 cover with scalloped flipbacks. Also included is the original inner sleeve.
Vinyl (Ex/Vg+) In superb shape and clearly has only seen light to moderate use. Under close inspection we could barely make out a single mark either side. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an EXCELLENT level of playback on Side 2 and, at least, VERYGOOD+ on side 1. Intros and inbetweens are nice and quiet and the audio comes across with superb clarity and minimal interference. Side 2 is really really good with very little to complain at at all. Side 1 has possibly seen slightly more use and we are detecting some very light static in a few of the tracks. Nothing remotely invasive and certainly nothing that takes anything away from a truly beautiful level of playback. These early copies really do deliver a warmth in the sound that is sadly lacking on later reissues. A classic album and a classic rendition.
Cover (Ex) Blimey! 1956! Try finding another one looking like this..the mind boggles how it is in this condition after 60 years of age. The front is free of the usual laminate lifting and creasing. Just a tad along the opening edge. The rear is in astonishing condition - remember, its 60 years old and there's almost no fading. Just some light handling wear nothing remotely problematic. Even the spine is 100% intact and overall the cover retains good rigidity. Difficult to imagine finding a better preserved example.
