Memphis Rockabilly - 1957
Arkansas-born Ed Bruce (1939-2021), best remembered for writing and performing the 1976 country hit, “Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys", traveled to Memphis’ Sun Records at age 17 where he caught the attention of label owner Sam Phillips.
He wrote and recorded his debut, “Rock Boppin’ Baby” in August of 1957 with Dickey Lee on guitar and Jimmy Smith on piano.
Vinyl: Both sides look and play as a strong VG+, just a hair below M- condition. It has also been cleaned with an ultrasonic record cleaner to remove dust.
Labels: Unmarked with no ink, tags or tears.
Dead wax: etched
Provenance: This copy belonged to Massachusetts DJ and rockabilly collector Bill Clark who died in 2024. It was in his collection for more than 35 years.
