Description

Up for your consideration is this electrically recorded Edison diamond disc that was released in late 1929 just before the Edison company closed its doors for good. Arguably one of the most sought after diamond disc records, both sides feature blues singer Eva Taylor (Queen Of The Moaners), accompanied by her husband Clarence Williams on the piano.

According to Wikipedia, she was born Irene Gibbons in St. Louis, appeared on stage from the age of three, and toured New Zealand, Australia and Europe before her teens. She also toured extensively with the "Josephine Gassman and Her Pickaninnies" vaudeville act. She settled in New York by 1920. There she established herself as a performer in Harlem nightspots. She wed Clarence Williams, a producer, publisher, and piano player. The newlyweds worked together on radio and recordings, including this release by Edison.

The side R song is "West End Blues" (take A) and side L is "Have You Ever Felt That Way?" (take B). Both labels show moderate wear. I would rate both record sides at "E-" as to overall condition. The R side has a few needle marks and lightly stressed grooves that result in occasional light ticking, and a couple of edge chips that don't reach the grooves. The L side has a few needle marks that produce a short period of moderate ticking at about the middle of the number. Despite these flaws, both sides play very well.
