Description
Collectors, here is a great disc, Edison Diamond Disc 52627, circa spring 1929. On the "L" side, Vaughn De Leath ("The Radio Girl") sings "Id Fall in Love with Me (If I Were You), with orchestra. On the "R" side, Helen Clark sings "Let Me Have My Dreams", with orchestra. Another odd Edison pairing, the operatic Miss Clark and the jazzy pop Miss De Leath, you will enjoy both songs. As far as I can tell, neither song was issued as a Blue Amberol cylinder . The record plays very well with minimal surface noise. There are no edge chips, and the labels are glued tightly to the record.
This was issued at the very end of Diamond Disc land! The highest numbered Diamond Disc issued was 52651. These were made only in small quantities. You had to buy the record in the few months it was for sale. Who knows what happened to dealer inventory when Edison went out of business, which effectively was in July 1929. As to how many are left 90+ years later, the answer has to be "not many"!! Recently, record 52645, issued about six weeks after this disc, sold on eBay for $405! If this is what you like and need, the odds of you seeing another one for sale in the near future are not good! Reasonable buy it now price given what I have here, go for it!
