Original Cast [Eddie Curtis]- This Is The Day!! : Selected Hightlights From The Forthcoming Musical Comedy Production LP Record (SDK-2)
UNRELEASED 1976 ORIGINAL CAST RECORDING for the African American funky R&B/Rock musical "This Is The Day!!" by Eddie Curtis. I suspect this was pressed to drum up interest in staging the musical, it's a shame because there's some great stuff on the LP. I can find no documentation of a performance of the musical.The album has Popcorn soul, break beats, funky grooves and even an arguably Northern Soul like number.

LP is VG/Cover is VG (it is a generic 12" sleeve with an ink stamp printed twice and it appears to have been used as a board to write something with felt pen on different paper or been stored near jackets with felt pen writing as there is some faint bleed through felt pen marks that are unreadable).
While research suggests this was completed and ready to pitch to backers in 1976, it seems evident that none of the music here was written after about 1972 and some written and recorded back in the 1960's.
I've also read this described as "Chock full of Dusty Fingers style Breaks & Samples!"
Written by Eddie Curtis (aka Memphis E. Curtis), the only references to this I can find are a note that some song score sheet music were donated by Eddie Curtis' estate to Columbia College Chicago and there is a reference from the New York Public Library: Billy Rose Theatre Division indicating within the donated papers of (bizarrely) Zero Mostel there was: "This is the day (Rock opera) / Eddie Curtis, 1976 1 folder Script and vocal score for This is the Day. Includes program and review of the backers".
The cover is ink stamped with the name of the musical and the address 888 8th Ave. N.Y.C. 10019 Suite 1-T and a phone number. No cast members are mentioned on the LP, only the characters performing the songs (see below).
Curtis wrote/cowrote It Should Have Been Me[Ray Charles], Lovey Dovey [Carla Thomas], The Joker [The Steve Miller Band]; as well as songs for Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, King Curtis, Red Norvo, The Clovers & Louis Jordan & The Tympany 5).

Columbia College Chicago site says of Eddie Curtis:
Eddie Curtis (a.k.a., Memphis E. Curtis) was a composer, arranger, and singer who was born in Galveston, Texas, on July 17, 1927. He became interested in music at an early age, and by the age of 15, he had led his own band. He received his education at the Boston Conservatory of Music, the Berklee School of Music, and UCLA, and he took private music instruction at Pepperdine University. Curtis composed hundreds of songs, including the R&B hits "Lovey Dovey" (recorded by the Clovers and other artists) and "It Should've Been Me" (made famous by Ray Charles). He also wrote several songs that were recorded by Connie Francis. Curtis died of prostate cancer on August 22, 1983, in New York. His close friend, Joe Lewis, donated the materials that comprise The Eddie Curtis Collection.
