Description
This item is the original tour headgear of ex British Sea Power keyboardist/bass-drummer and allround madman Eamon Hamilton. Eamon has now left BSP to front his own band, Brakes (who released one of last year's best albums, Give Blood) on a full-time basis.
The helmet I am offering was worn by Eamon for BSP gigs around the world (USA, Europe, Japan) from 2002 - December 2004, when it was won by its current owner via a BSP charity auction. It is only now being re-auctioned in order to help finance a small independent record label's next release.
The heavy metal helmet is understood to be a wartime fireman's helmet. It was painted in a number of colours during Eamon's ownership, and was specially decorated for the orginal auction by the so-called "East Sussex Teenage Artkunst". The headgear carries the inscription 'Courage is the secret of power', together with Eamon's signature and drawings associated with the first BSP album, Decline of British Sea Power.
As well as being an important part of recent musical history, the helmet may offer future scientists the opportunity to clone Eamon from the copious DNA samples encrusting the inner head-straps. As such, the winner of this auction will become the custodian of a totally unique item to be cherished.
