Led Zeppelin

THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME

A 1st Pressing

Ultrasonically and vacuum cleaned-then listened too-ALL the way through...

Commonly dismissed as a disappointment upon its initial release, the soundtrack to Led Zeppelin's concert movie The Song Remains the Same is one of those '70s records that has aged better than its reputation -- it's the kind of thing that's more valuable as the band recedes into history than it was at the time, as it documents its time so thoroughly.

Led Zep’s manager Peter Grant revealed in a 1989 interview in Raw magazine:

“We first got the idea for Swan Song after Atlantic f- up the pressings for Led Zeppelin II. They actually ran off 100,000 copies which jumped all over the place because they didn’t follow Jimmy’s precise instructions on the master tape. So we just decided that it was time for us to take control of our own situation and ensure that Led Zeppelin were presented in the best possible manner. We oversaw every aspect of record manufacture. I would go down to the pressing plant myself and make sure that everything ran smoothly. And I discovered some very interesting things. For instance, the records are dipped during the manufacturing process into vats of acid right? But for Rock/ Pop stuff these vats are only cleaned out every six months. However, for classical records there are separate vats which are cleaned out every ten days! So, I persuaded the powers that be to dip Zeppelin’s albums into the classical vat, which is part of the reason why the sound quality on our albums was so good.”

The vinyl:

EX.

After giving her a gentle vacuum clean, followed by an ultrasonic bath, I popped her onto my deck, turned up the volume and sat back.

I wasn't dissapointed with the sound reproduction at all....Visually there are only light and faint marks to the vinyls, simply from removal and replacement of the inner, certainly nothing to make her jump or skip-or even anything to register on playback. I didn't notice ANY significant background noise throughout...Even the run-ins and outs were lovely and quiet.

NO nasty pops.

Stairway To Heaven is wonderfully clear and sounds great as a live track. With the split in the middle of Dazed And Confused bouncing wonderfully of my left and right speakers-made me smile :()

EACH OF THE SONGS REMAIN, well..SUPERB, with clean and clear audio :)

The Labels:

EX+

Swan Song labels with just a couple of incredibly light spindle marks to them-would frame well!

They are the 1st pressings-WITHOUT the 'Manufactured in the UK' statements

LOVELY

The Sleeve:

EX!

It is the FIRST PRINTING RUN as it is textured-later ones did not have this as it was quite expensive to produce.

There is only some very light and insignificant storage/handling wear to this sleeve. ..With just 3 or 4 lines of spidering near the opening to the bottom right corner-That is it!

Great strong corners with minimal rubbing.

NO SPLITS

NO WRITING

The booklet is still with her and in GREAT condition too...with the original staples and wonderful vibrant colours.

TOP NOTCH

The Inners:

EX-.

ALL ORIGINAL BLACK INNERS.

They have the top thumb notch and are made of heavy paper.

One has a small rubbed split of around 4cm to the bottom, with the other being in great condition. Some light splodges but nothing terrible at all.

Very nice to find the originals with this set.

SO, ALL IN ALL THIS IS SOLID PIECE FOR ANY COLLECTOR-REMEMBER THIS IS THE 1st PRESSING AND STILL HAS THE ORIGINAL BOOKLET IN SUPER CONDITION.....STICK HER ON YOUR TURNTABLE AND TURN HER UP-I DID ;) !!
