ETERNITY’S CHILDREN
Canadan LP
The group got together when they were at Delta College in Mississippi. At the time, they were called the Phantoms. They moved to Biloxi and became the house band at a club in the basement of the Biloxi Hotel.
They caught a break or two acting as the backing band for visiting performers such as Charlie Rich and B.J. Thomas. When the guys added local folksinger Linda Lawley to their lineup, the fledgling band changed to the more contemporary name: Eternity's Children.
A demo of theirs make it's way to A&M Records, who signed the band and cut one 45 in 1967, but the record went nowhere, and they were quickly dropped. They next got a deal with Capitol's tax-shelter subsidiary Tower.
Teamed up with Curt Boettcher they cut this magnificent single "Mrs. Bluebird" which struggled into the charts in July of 1968, but the song stalled low on the carts, despite an appearance on American Bandstand. Somehow, up in Canada, the 45 did fairly well, hitting #14 on the CHUM charts.
Here’s their 1968 debut album, not on Tower, but on the Canadian Capitol pressing in their 6000 Series (ST 6256 to be exact). Superb sunshine pop classic.
