Description
Up for auction is a very nice copy of "Eric Dolphy At The Five Spot" released on New Jazz Records (NJLP 8260) in 1961. This copy is an early Mono second pressing, probably from 1964, when it was issued with the original cover but had the Prestige Blue Trident label. Despite that, it still retains the original catalog number of 8260, as the original New Jazz releases had (see the label photos). New Jazz Records stopped releasing records in/around 1963, so this copy is most likely an early 2nd pressing. Later pressings were reissued with different covers and different catalog numbers (on cheaper vinyl and poorer sound quality). This is a very nice copy of the album. The cover looks great with only a small about of rubbing along the left top and bottom right edge. Upper right corner is slightly bumped. Otherwise, no seam splits, no chipping, no writing, no ring wear. Back cover is beautiful and clean, bone white. Grade the cover Near Mint Minus (NM-). The heavy vinyl is equally nice and beautifully preserved. Retains its original glossy shine. Perhaps a couple of inner sleeve marks that are hard to see. No marks around the spindle holes, indicating very little previous play. It looks like this copy has been played maybe once before. I would grade the vinyl Near Mint (NM). Play tested, and it has beautiful, clean full-bodied mono sound, just as it was recorded. You can get a Near Mint copy of the first pressing of this album, but you'll pay upwards of $800. Whereas you can get this beautiful copy for a fraction of that and still experience the superior audio quality of an early mono pressing.
