Norwegian blackened avant-metal mainstays, Enslaved, are no strangers to drawing on folkloric influence from their Scandanavian surroundings, which makes their sixteenth full-length Heimdal feel like a triumphant, frosted homecoming. One of the most notable figures in Norse mythology, the mysterious character has always been at the fringes of the group's expansive lyrical universe, first appearing in the track, 'Heimdallr', on the, 'Yggdrasill', demo tape, originally released in 1992. Three decades on, a fully devoted work to the mystique of Heimdal finally arrives, and showcases a collective of artists at the ceaseless peak of their creative ambition. A first snifter was introduced last year with the psychedelic title-track from their, 'Caravans To The Outer Worlds', EP, possibly hinting at the sprawling sonics that await beneath the branches of Yggdrasil.
