This "Doc Holliday" is not the same band as the Southern Rock band from Macon, Georgia (circa 1980's). In fact this band is not mentioned in any of the Psych Band books anywhere. But, it is a psychedelic heavy that ranks up there with the best of them. Frank Carillo was an in demand session guitarist and traveled to England to help with a couple “Frampton's Camel” albums. While he was there he formed this band and recorded an album at Olympic studios where "The Rolling Stones" had just finished recording "Sticky Fingers" and "Led Zeppelin" was recording the "Houses Of The Holy" LP. They used the Stones equipment to record the album and had Chris Kimsey as producer. It's unknown if this album ever had public distribution. I've only seen two and both were radio station copies. This "Doc Holliday" is sorely overlooked and deserves an official CD release. A late psychedelic gem with special effects, backwards guitars, echoes, three part harmonies, surrealistic vocals and that omnipresent mysterious vibe. They remind me of "Free" just a little bit, but with more guitar "fireworks" if that's possible. As a psych nut, I get chills everytime I hear this. It begs the question "How does this one fly under the radar for so Long?" "Doc Holliday" lasted one more year and broke apart. Frank has been active doing studio work, movie soundtracks, releasing solo albums and currently fronts "The Bandoleros" in New York.
I've been a psych collector for years. If you're a psych nut and haven't heard this album, you will be drop jawed at how good it is. "The Messiah Song" brings tears to my eyes. If this were on a private label, it would fetch a house payment in value. You will not be disappointed.
The Cover has some minor edge wear and a split at the top. There is some discoloration on the left side where the radio sticker was removed and some sticker residue on the upper right. The backside has a handwritten "X" , but its small and does not effect the picture or the song list. The record has some ticks here and there and plays mostly EX, but a perfectionist would drop it to VG++.
